Got a slight issue with one cylinder of a 2l ford crossflow always spitting back through carb.
Any ideas?
Cheers
I assume you've tried swapping jets between cylinders?
Is the spitting at tickover or under light or heavy load?
I had a similar problem on a Solex Mikuni 40's which I
tracked down to a loose idle jet.
Spitting back on Weber/s is normally a weak mixture and in your case on that particular cylinder
Have you checked mixture and also balance between the carb's ?
Might be some crud in the Carb circuit
Google Dave Andrew's Weber carb guide for some good info
check the idle mixture on the cylinder that is weak, wind the idle mixture screw in and out in small increments waiting about 15 seconds between each
tweak, stop turning when the engine is running its best, do this for each mixture screw. if you still have the same symptom......
could be a blocked/loose idle jet so whip it out and check its clear.
the main reason for spitting back in one cylinder is an air leak, check the gasket, check the misab plates are sealing. a trick is to spray wd40
around where you suspect the leak is, the engine will pick up a little as the liquid seals the leak and then go back to as before as the liquid gets
drawn away
Worth checking for blocked progression holes too.
Thank you very much for your replies. Looks like I have a few jobs to check out tomorrow.
Much appreciated.

P's its on idle and light load.

Has the idle speed altered since the trouble started ?
Accelerator pumps jets are especially prone to blocking
Overhaul kits ordered.
Thanks for all the replies.

hope the overhaul goes Ok, just a minor point, if it is a 2.0l then it is a pinto not a crossflow, exhaust on the drivers side confirms this. Just thought I'd point this out in case you are looking for parts in the future.
Ahhh!
Thanks. Exhaust on drivers side. As you may have sussed I am new to this.........
Was told it was a 205 injection head and block from a Sierra circa 1983/89. I found info on the Internet from the Haynes page when the car was built
that it was bored out to 2078cc. The original builder posted pictures and info. Will investigate further.
