They may not be an off the shelf thing but. . .
Imagine an M6 threaded bar approx 50mm long about 10mm down is a nut that is formed onto the thread.
It means that you can use a spanner to put the bolt into a threaded hole and it provides you with a thread to put a nut on.
Any ideas?
Sounds like a threaded rod with a nut welded on
But all joking aside, can you just do this, or a nyloc?
Could be: "adjuster rod"
Not something I have come accross
Could you not just put in a piece of threaded rod and then lock it in with a nut?
Same end result, you can lock two nuts together onto the stud to screw it in then remove one but.
Double end screw/bolt/stud is closest term I can find that brings up some results.

Bit like and exhaust stud but not seen one with a nut on.
Sounds like a male turnbuckle this brings up lots of similar things that you describe
I've seem then used with female rods ends and such

Thanks for the replies.
I think I have found the closest product. A male to male hex stand off.
In the end I am changing the design and going for these:

I need a cheap off the shelf product, I cant just make one in the garage. This is actually work related and I need 3000 of these a year!
Double ended stud or double ended hex flange stud. They appear to be specials, but 3k a year might not make them silly money if you're willing to
hold a year's stock.
