zetec flywheel removeal have i made a boo boo?

lads, i have removed the flywheel on my silvertop zetec but.........


do thay have a bolt pattern that only allows them to bolt on one way or not???????? ie in referance to TDC

i have managed to get a 1.8 flywheel but b had already took the 2.0 one off

i'm stressing...........

So that the ECU see's the crankshaft position correctly

And its all done by the bolt /hole spacing. There will be only one position where ALL the bolts will go in easily without ANY interference.

How much interference will there be?

Could anyone get the bolts in if they tried hard enough - without resorting to drills, files etc.

No, they're offset and not in a symmetrical pattern. That's how most cars do it. I'm not actually sure why, since surely you could have a key or dowel which would do the job just as well, and seems an easier manufacturing solution?

a woodruff key or other type of keyway could'nt or should be used on a flywheel as its a high load item for short periods ie starting he car

keyways/woodruff keys do where & can work loose which usually scrappd the componant



i did think it was a non symetrical bolt pattern its not instantly noticable on a zetec flywheel that it is'nt symetrical

time to fidde this weekend to see if ican get the cheapo motor up & running aslong as i can get hold of a starter motor i'm good to go
