Is that common on kit cars?
Normally just on the day of running the car... the garage stinks of gas. Wouldnt mind but garage is connected to house so you can spell it in the
house too.
No leaks visible....

Check the rubber fuel hoses. If they are not r9 or above grade they may be letting fuel seep through them.
And no, it is not bormal for any car to stink of petrol. If it does, their is a leak/issue somewhere.
If the engines running carbs it will smell if it's running injection it shouldn't really .
Injectors.. 2l zetec turbo...
Hmm ok will have a look around. I know the hoses under the hood are all ok - so maybe I need to check fuel tank end...
Check for leaks with a match
Joke btw
Do you have braided fuel hoses? they often seem to be poor quality hoses but you can't see the rubber, so you don't know they are porous. Nasty.
Petrolysisi Aycarambra!
A subject that was close to my heart, after replacing hoses several times because of the stink of petrol in the garage...

Tank breather not fitted with a valve?
I had the same problem and eventually traced it to a weep in one of the welds on the fuel tank. It was only noticeable when the tank was more than half full as it was quite high up. Easily fixed from the outside with some plastic metal putty.
Talcum powder is a good way to find leaks, just liberally sprinkle any suspect areas , the powder will change colour if any seepage is found
