Progress & First Drive
Making a bit more progress at the moment, managed to roll the car outside a couple of weekends ago to take some pictures for the insurance.
Started it this weekend, first time for months, and first time since changing the main jets in the carbs. Ran a lot better than the last time I
started it.
Even got to drive it for the first time. Only out of the garage, but still the maiden voyage.

Luckly I did not have to make the chassis at home. I was able to make it at work along with the roll cage.
Does get tight trying to work on it now that the wheels & arches are on.

Well after 18 months with the Roadster being covered up in the garage I thought it was about time I got my backside in gear and got it finished.
I purchased the last parts just after Christmas and here she is all finished.
After a six week wait this Saturday was the day we went to the rolling road to get her checked & tuned up. Needless to say I was bricking it. All
I was hoping was that the engine survived!!
Steve from Powercrazy Motorsport, near Cullompton Devon is an absolute legend. Explained exactly what he was doing at all times.
Carbs were setup spot on before I got there. Purely by luck. Just need a small tweek to the megajolt map.
Here we are all strapped down ready to go.
Rear end was light and jumping on rollers, needed some more ballast!!
Thats me sat on the roll cage lol.
Engine was a 1.6i from a 1990 Sierra, standard output of approx 70 bhp.
I binned the injection and fitted bike carbs & megajolt.
Final output was 109 bhp!!! With more to come if I want.
To say I was happy would be an understatement.
Any how couple of videos also attached. One before adjusting megajolt & one after. Enjoy while I go and fill in IVA forms.

Must say a big thank you to forum member Gus for towing the trailer, and taking some cracking pictures for me.
Cheers

That's huge power from a 1.6!

The screen was produced by Saturn Sports Cars. I believe the moulds are now in the possession of Vmax on the Haynes forum.
The engine had a healthy power increase from original as the 70bhp single point injection was absolute rubbish in the Sierra.
It's essentially the same engine that's was fitted to the XR2 Fiesta which would have been 96bhp standard with weber carb. So 109bhp with
bike carbs and megajolt only really a 13bhp increase.

When you said 1.6 from a Sierra I was thinking you meant pinto. Now I think about it as it was injection it would be a cvh wouldn't it?

If it was from the XR2 it'll be a CVH.
Decent engine in my opinion, light (lifted mine into a car unaided and i'm not a big guy) and goes well when its set up right. Easy turbo
upgrade too, due to RS Turbo.
Car looks great! Engine bay pics?

Below is probably the best picture I have of the engine bay. Hasn't got that rocker cover on any more. I managed to get hold of an RS1600 one
for it in the end.
Should really take some up to date pictures really.

I think it's Saturn/Gillham big scoop bonnet, so you should ask Vmax1974 for it
