type 9 v6 gearbox info needed

chaps i'm thinking of getting a v6 type9 manual gearbox as i have heard they are a stronger gearbox? is this true?

i have heard also they are a longer input shaft,

is it just a case of choppy choppy of the input shaft to use one of these gearbox's with a rs2000 bellhousing to mate to a 2.0 zetec, all info is super appreciated guys

I've fitted one yes stronger, but also better ratios, longer 1st 2nd 3rd, the input shaft can be changed but I used a spacer between the box and the bellhousing.
The V6 bellhousing is wrong for an inline 4 so you will need the spacer and an inline bellhousing

You can do as you suggest but a far better way is to get a spacer from Caterham which goes between the bell housing and the gearbox.

the box has heavier duty bearings and a higher ratio 1st gear. Worth doing but please don't chop the shaft up

a spacer is thats all thats needed?

i was wondering about the input shaft what i do there? there are 18 spline on most ford shafts & apparently 19 on the v6 box?

what can i do here?

i ask as a local banger racer has offered me a box for v6 5 speed for nothing? its a good working gearbox, not been in a banger for racing as its still in a rotton capri, only dowside is i have to take it out myself after i have driven the car to check its ok, but the guy has offered to get the old nail up & running so i can try the gearbox out, he has driven it & has assured me its ok

would be great if this works out

I am just having a 4x4 box sorted for 4 pot use. The chap has machined the input shaft to match the 4 cylinder type one, didn't take long on the Bridgeport
Most of the internals are more or less identical to between the two boxes, even the "heavy duty" stub bearing won't be very different. BUT it is the improved gearing where the advantage lies.

Well, I made the effort, and it has cost me a few quid to do, so that should be enough proof it is worthwhile!

Input and output splines are the same on inline and V6 box.
fitted straight on to a standard Pinto clutch.
1st is longer 3.3 when standard is 3.6
2nd 1.81 standard 1.97
3rd 1.21

dave r i have sent a u2u

i'm a novice and can see how those rations will be beneficial for my engine install, my plan is to hook it up to a silvertop zetec, i like a gearbox with a noce long 1st gear!!!!!

my axle is a 4ha with either a 3.7 or 3.4 cwp, not sure which out of the two as i have to count the crownwheel & pinion but either way it should give me decent acceration & fuel econamy on a run i'd have thought, my current diff is 4.1 which is great & will leave many a car standing but top end with an old 4 speed triumph gearbox is a bit rubbish
