Newbie Building Haynes Roadster
Hi All
I am planning to build a Haynes Roadster with my 10 year old son.
I have Chris Gibbs book, but think I may have an early version (won it on ebay!), I believe now there is now reference to using a Mazda MX5 as a donor
vehicle rather than the tried and trusted Sierra?
Would any of you kind people know where I can download the differences between my book and the MX5 version?
Thanks in advance, I will be ordering the steel in the next fortnight so will start construciton.

There were two outfits selling MX5 versions, Saturn Sports Cars that sold to NTS, who are now just shutting down and Voodoo auto kits.
They have been very quiet for a while so not sure what is going on.
Talon who posts on here is also a very good bet for information, his name is Phil sell quite a bit through ebay. I built a chassis from him and have
no complaints.
Post you location and you may get more regional help.

hi
sorry my location is cannock (west midlands).
I plan to build the chassis to the dimensions in the book, however, I realise the diff mounting and engine/gearbox mount positions will be
different.
I'll post up on the haynes site later.

Hi mate, you're not very far from me, I'm in Featherstone (a bit further down the Cannock Road). I'll be interested to see how you
get on, even knowing where you get your supplies from would be very useful.
NTS Engineering has details of all the changes needed to use an MX5 donor;

The downloadable PDF explains how to go from the Haynes car to an MX5 version, I'm planning on using it for my build.

The only real structural difference between the Sierra and the MX5 running gear is the shape and size of the diff. If you lose the rear cast ali
cover off the MX5 diff and swap it for a fabribacted steel one with out the arms it will fit where the sierra one usualy goes.

Thanks mate, its more the difference on engine mount and gearbox mount positions etc.
Can I use mx5 front hubs etc.

Thanks mate, I will have to juggle my time between making the chassis and my current restoration project - a Renault Alpine.

I would suggest you speak with spud69 on the Haynes forum. The drawings would have originally been his before NTS. Not sure what changes got made
but would be starting point.
I would have suggested going onto the www.vodouautokits.co.uk site but that seems to have gone.
How far down the line are you with an MX5 build as it might be worth going back to Sierra! or looking for a different kit.
Spud is you best bet.

How far have to got with that chassis Adrian is it rolling under it's power or propped up in the corner rusting? Always nice to see how people
are getting on with their builds or abandonments...
