Mnr vortx setup
Hi All
Please could anyone give me some advice on my set up, the car feels very skittish on bumpy roads ive got the bottom wishbones level by winding the
push rods out and then had to compress the spring a bit ,the springs are 7” 150lb and are compressed by about 2” when the car is on the ground the
shocks are protec and the damp knobs are turned fully anticlockwise any advise would me much appreciated
cheers Tony

Sounds way to soft, I would imagine the shocks are way out of there working range. It was discussed recently and a lot of adjustable dampers working
range is limited to a few of their many clicks.
Not sure what engine you have, or the weight of the car but 150lb sounds about half to 2/3rds whats normally used for 7esq cars.
Have you spoken to MNR?

It's got a bike engine in it , the front setup is rock hard you have to jump on it to get it to move, there's nothing binding and nothing
stoping the front from moving .
Could it be that the shocks are valved wrong

If the shocks are already compressed by 50mm they may be bottoming out while going over bumps.
Also having your shocks wound all the way to zero may mean that the springs are just bouncing the car around, you need some damping.
Are your tyres at the right pressure? What might be recomended on a decent size road car (35-45psi) will be rock hard on something that light.

Theres no problem with the shocks or springs, that's exactly what I run in RGB.
If you have rose joints all round, check your geometry is correct, make sure your camber, caster and tracking is set correctly.
Talk to Marc, they can do a full set up and corner weight it for you, it will transform the handling.

Cheers every one
Tyre pressures are set at 15 psi shocks have plenty of movement on them and the wheels do stay on the ground when you lift the car up, you can't
make the car move much by forcing it down to try and compress the spring

I assume you have the version with inbuilt front suspension - if so have you perhaps made the rocker bolts too tight so the rockers wont actually move

with 150lb springs, you should be able to grab the wishbones and man handle the suspension to move up and down without too much trouble...
look for it binding as suggested above, then make sure you havent fully wound the shocks to either extreme.
I have had my shocks revalved with procomp but that was based on what MNR were doing 4 years ago. I wouldnt expect that to be necessary or appropriate
without checking the above suggestions.

Paul.

Thanks
There's nothing binding that would stop the shocks from working.
Had a word with proconp they suggested new shocks that they re valve and change oil they wouldn't re valve mine he did say they are a real pig
to set up with inboard suspension.
Would anyone go lower than 15psi on the fronts

If its really that bad its likely to be something thats way out.
If you were running 35psi and suddenly jumped to 15 then that may explain it but a few PSI here or there may make a small difference, but not enough
to make you go 'WOW - thats what it was all along, its so much better now'.
Not sure if its been mentioned, but are all your joints free and easy to move when the shocks are disconnected and the wheels off the ground?

Don't waste your money playing with different shocks and springs until you have the geometry set up correctly. if it's skittish on the
road it's more likely to be your caster or tracking.
There's nothing wrong with the inboard setup on the MNR, as I have already said, I run the same setup on the track with no problems.

Mark set the suspension up after it passed iva
The only other kit car I have had was a westy and it would wee all over this car in the handling
Have you driven your car on a bumpy B road at speed or only on track

It's my second MNR, my first was a road RT+ with an R1, I built it and ran it on the road and trackdays for 3 years.
If your geometry is ok, then maybe you need to look at the shocks. What size wheels and tyres are you using?

just after IVA is not a good time to set suspension. generallly need a couple of hundred miles to settle before specialist setup. maybe a trip to
procomp would be a very good idea

Looks like your Up Norf, I'm dan Sauf, so probably a few miles away.
If you want to see how an MNR can go, pop along to Donington over the weekend 24th/25th Sept, there should be 3 off us out in the RGB races.
Come and say hello.

Thanks Steve and Daniel
I have done around six hundred miles in the car now and it's a real pleasure at slow speed but these things are made to go fast I just thought
it would work straight out the box
I would just like every one to know I have no problem with anyone that owns an mnr or any other kit we are all into the same thing things just came to
an head today with my car and it made me think of all the stuff that happened during my build I can only say what my experiences where even though I
have spoken to others with the same stories but it looks like they don't want to say anything , I'm sure mnr have more happy customers
than unhappy ones
Cheers tony
