Zetec Engine Position.

Hi Guys,

Just droped my engine in my chassis, ready to design and build engine mounts etc.
One question on location of engine in the rearward direction etc.
At presesnt its sat about 10-15mm forward between the bulkhead horizantal top bar and the theromostat etc. This obvioulsy has the issue of the gear stick will clash with one of the horizantal transmission tunnel bars.
So I see some have added the gear stick mechanisum extention etc from Burtom Power and others. Some have cut the bulkhead horizantal out where the thermostat is, welded another piece back to back and so allowing the engine to go back another 25mm etc.
What have you guys done and what do you prefer?

Cheers!

I made my own thermostat housing so the pipe goes over cross member, rear of engine is 10mm from bulkhead. I think a Raceline thermostat rail does the same, might be worth a look

I'd be moving some of the chassis members to get the motor as far back as possible. Better for handling.

Cut the bit out where the gearstick wants to be and put a bit of box in front and behind, cut the front bulkhead bit out and x it or move it back so you can shift the motor right back. Imo if you can get the motor right back so the gearbox comes behind the tunnel tube all the better.

Hi Guys,

I have cut out the chassis and added a rail behind so it can go back 25mm more. also looking into the conversion. Any other suppliers than Burton?

Cheers!

Raceline themselves? There are other alternative designs of similar ilk, but from what I've seen the Raceline is the best one if going for non-standard.

I looked at putting my ST170 as close to the bulkhead as possible but found the variable inlet plenum clashed on the steering shaft. in the end i had to move the engine forward.

I think that the nicest aftermarket water rail is from Dunnell,.. although not at all locost

Hi guys,

Well I have got it back as far as I can, it measures 15mm from water rail back to frame (Was thermostat to frame) and then 15mm each side between bell housing and frame up rights. It has moved the engine back by about an extra 50mm

Thoughts?

I have my cvh as far back as it can go with a slight mod to the bulk head, at IVA with me in it weight distribution was a bit to the rear but nearly 50/50 without driver. If I'd known I probably would have moved it forward but then would have needed the gear-lever extension.
