Does this car seem legit?

Does this car advert sound ok? Its not mine but just saw it on ebay. The MOT check shows it as a Porsche. I kind of like it but my gut says its not quiet right. I hope it is as its a cracking looking car

ebay link

Being Porsche 'unknown' and with a Porsche engine I would lean towards legit registered, just a badly chosen name , prob by DVLA

Morning mate.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah the name doesn't fill me with confidence.

I didnt know a kit car was named based on what engine it had. I always thought it was the chassis. My kit car has a Ford engine but is an SSC stylus? I really hope its all legit as i love the look of it and the background. I had a Roadrunner Racing SR1 road legal single seater a few years ago and loved it but hated the fact is was a single seater as it was a bit anti social. Then before that i had an Elden sports 2000 track only car. Combine the 2 and you have the car in the ebay link.

Hopefully someone on here knows the car and can shed some light on it.

Looks like a 1 off or a prototype race car thats found its way to the road. SO the name will be what ever the owner wanted, if registered long enough ago it could well have been named by the DVLA with the only name the person at the dvla recognised.

Just give DVLA a ring and ask.

I had exactly the same dilemma buying my Locost - it is registered as ‘MG Supercharged’. I called the kit and specials department and spoke and they confirmed they were completely happy with it. Winner!

That looks like a super cool car by the way - good luck if you go for it!

So i am the only one that thinks its a ringer ?

Its a Porsche registered on a Q plate, that in itself indicates something dodgy to me
It is probably an inport of a Porsche that has ended up on a Q plate, and some bits stuck onto an old Lola, and mot'd

The Porsche hasnt been taxed since 1990 and was only registered in Nov1989, so only taxed for one year ?

The interior looks tatty, and overal it looks ok, but 15k ? i dont think so !!

Q185 DPF
Tax due:
1 December 1990

Mot Expired:
29 November 2019

Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 17 December 2018

The car was made with 1979 Porsche bits, says it in the advert, so the parts it was made with are not from the original Porsche
as reflected on the V5 details

also, as i said ^^ 15k, for a car with no MOT ??

I'd say it's probably legit, but I'd certainly want to know more about the history eg why hasn't it been taxed for years, even cars that are exempt show as being taxed. As already said worth talking to DVLA - Porsche Unknown does seem a little strange, Lola Porsche Special would seem a lot more suitable

As said talk to DVLA, but if seriously interested then talk to the owner.

The car is well worth that asking price if it's legit, as long as it's in reasonable nick. I've never sold a finished, registered Furore for less than £16k & that was the prototype & ex demonstrator, car engined & quite scruffy. I know someone who recently sold an Edge Devil for £15k quite quickly & that's only a single seater & nothing like the spec of that Porsche engine & box

It's started life as a race car Lola sports 2000& in a way that's the only major thing against it as spares could be a problem

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

To me as long as it has been through SVA/IVA I don't see a problem with it. And as its on a Q reg. it probably has.

The name is because it is based on a modified Lola Sport 2000 race car chassis but has had a porsche engine and gearbox fitted, So Lola Porsche would be a reasonable name in my view.

It's not an imported porsche of any sort.

I agree on the face of it that £15k for a car without an MOT seems a bit steep, but the guy says he has health problems so might not be in a position to do any work needed for the MOT.

Best thing would be to go and see it/owner and ask questions. Covid limitations permitting.

Just because it's a bit different to seven type kit car does not mean it's a ringer.

Whether it is correctly registered needs checking with the owner and DVLA.

If the DVLA details are correct it predates SVA and IVA. It looks like it was taxed for a year and then maybe only used off road. The owner may then have MOTd it in 2018, but never got round to taxing and insuring it. Since it has run out in November 2019, he may well have waited to MOT it again and sell it in the warmer weather in spring 2020, but that has been sabotaged by Covid - MOT stations being shut for months and then only supposed to be used by those that need their car for essential journeys.

since it has volkspeed advertising on it, and the number plate is made by them,

it may be worth contacting them for some history

No idea or comment on it's legitamacy.

On the ebay advert why has the seller tried to hide the rear number plate, but left the front plate plainly visible?

this is usually done when it is being transported, either on a truck, or trailer.
so speed cameras etc read the host vehicle, rather than the one being transported.

OK, makes sense. Not noticed it in advert photos before.

Hi

It's value is also very dependant on how mucked about the Lola bit of it is, it'd be worth a good look, if it's not too hacked about then it's probably worth nearly it's asking price to consider converting it back, or semi converting it back.
The cockpit shot looks to be almost original (roll hoop and side stays apart)

The Porsche engine install isn't unique as there's a very nice one running on the Hillclimb scene:-

https://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3917693

The Lola bodyshell is available too at not silly money..

Now putting the pukka body on it and leaving it road registered on that Q plate (which I think is kosher..)..

I seem to be alone in thinking this is a ringer, if the V5 had said Ford, or Vauxhall, there would of been a hundred comments saying it was a ringer,
so whats different with it saying Porsche ?

Why isnt the car called a Lola, on the V5 if thats what the chassis is (i doubt very much) as thats how it started in life, even says so in the advert

ringer ringer ringer, and some sad sucker is going to buy a bag full of shyte, and doubt they will ever get it on the road,

If it said Ford Cortina or Vauxhall Cavalier I'd defo be with you on that, but the fact that it says Porshe Unknown implies that there has defo been a name change with the DVLA. If it was simply a stolen/recovered Porshce which someone had ripped thge engine out of or whatever & it was then rebuilt, it could get a Q plate if parts were from a different year vehicle etc., (tho' very unusual to see a Q plated Porsche 911 even back in the day) but there'd be no need to change the identity on the V5

To go back to your analogy about the V5 saying Ford etc. if this was a one off special 7 style & it said Ford Special on the V5 that would be fine if the dates all tallied etc, it's when you see something like an MK on an old reg that says Cortina/Escort or whatever & the reg. is prior to MK even existing

As regards the Lola chassis, it looks right for the rear end & they are defo cast uprights in the right style, they will probably say Lola in the casting

The more i scrutinise the pictures and those of a pukka Lola T492, coupled with the blokes description.. I reckon that's not far off a Lola T492 that's had the roll hoop altered and the side stays removed (stays just unbolt I believe) and a Porsche 3.0 dropped in instead of the Pinto and Hewland (which as mentioned isn't unique) and then that body dropped over the top..

There's a pukka body for it on racecarsdirect for £800..

Shame it's in Surrey and I have too many projects on the go..

Though IMHO I'd forget the Road bit and use it where it's meant to be; on a track.. Or just use the Road bit to get it to where it's meant to be!

Agree with you, if it's had a name change with the DVLA then i'd certainly be optimistic when checking it with them
