Zetec Se (Sigma) cooling setup
Hi all
I'm having some issues with the cooling system on my 1.6 Zetec SE and not sure if it's plumbed in ok. The car was used as a race car in a
previous life so trying to sort various "race" fixes out.
Issue seem to be having is it looks like the thermostat isn't opening and temp rises to over 100 degrees.
It didn't have a thermostat fitted so not sure if I've fitted mine the correct way around (fits both ways) but also unsure of the pipework
routing. Also my temp sender is plumbed in to the pipe at rear of the block so on the return I presume.
I have searched the forum but most posts are old and pictures have gone
I have attached some pics (hopefully)

i've just been sorting the plumbing on mine, it fairly straight forward once you get your head around it.
I'm struggling to see how it's plummed from the photos, but on the drawing you look to be a pipe short. There should be a pipe running
from the rear (originally side) water outlet to the thermostat housing, this pipe would also feed the heater if one was fitted and link to the bottom
of the expansion tank.
The stat goes in with the "workings" into the block with the air bleed to the top.

Im not running a heater and the outlet next to thermostat housing is blanked off and because my engine is really close to the bulkhead I have some
kind of raceline/homemade housing bolted directly to back of block with a large 32mm outlet, there is however a smaller hose that is connected near
there but that runs back to expansion tank. I will get some better pics when im next at the car

The small pipe on the thermostat housing on the block needs to be connected to the smaller outlet on the back of the head for the thermostat to open.
Normally there's a heater between them but if not put some sort of restrictor in .

Hi
As previously said the 22mm pipe from induction side to thermostat needs to be added, when you start up the thermostat will be closed to the radiator
the coolant will flow in the 22mm until the cold engine hits temp x then the thermostat will open allowing coolant to radiator.
Hope this helps

Unfortunately I don't have a pipe at the rear of the block to connect the 22mm heater return to, it's a custom plate with only a 32mm hose
connector, could I connect the 22mm into this so basically it would be connected to the top hose like this
