mk blade - 25/7/06 at 04:07 PM

Have just got the entry list for harewood on the 6th of august and notice a couple of MKs are booked in that are not mark.

Kurt Ramsden with a 4,000cc V8 I presume and
Paul Smart with a 998cc presume some bike engine.

Anyone going to watch, I will be there as usual with camera.

Tony.

Sadly I can't make this one

I'll be back there for the september meets though

Hi Tony,

hope to see you there, come over and have a chat my car number will be 136. unfortunatley harewood organisers have put me in the wrong class (sports libre) where i will be up against radicals and the like in my R1 engine road going indy. They seem to have trouble classifying anything with a bike engine but hopefully i can get a change of class to class A modifed production cars which should be a bit more like it.
Anyway i am looking forward to harewood as i havent driven it for a year.
cheers

Paul

p.s Kurts car has a 4 litre rover V8 running 8 R1 carbs.

Great day out today and the weather held up nice. Good to meet you tony, did you manage to get any decent pictures and did you get any of me going forwards

managed a couple of decent runs with a best time of 68.64. pretty pleased as it was the first time at harewood in the MK and first time this year.

nice to see a few new faces and plenty of old ones and chris M now without car

Hellfire - 6/8/06 at 08:50 PM

Paul, how does that time of 68.64 compare to others?

Phil

skydivepaul - 6/8/06 at 09:12 PM

the fastest cars at harewood will do a 50 seconds run, these are full race cars on methanol. the kit car classes vary but the top lads can post a 64 second run. I think Mark Anderson won his class with a 68.7 last time. see thread.........linky

so all in all quite pleased with the time for the first time in the MK there. I need to try to drive less aggresively
easier said than done

Was good to see a few more MK competing in competition.

Was a shame about kurt's car but at least he got to play even if it was in his road car.

Good day

Selection of pics now up on website.

Tony.

skydivepaul - 8/8/06 at 06:44 PM

some cracking pictures Tony. Very nice

RWDKurt - 13/8/06 at 11:07 AM

I enjoyed the day, even if I did bust a bottom wishbone in practice. A pretty 'soft' failure IMO - I went off at Farmhouse but didn't actually hit anything.

A pair of new wishbones should be here in time for Oliver's Mount next weekend - are you out to play there Paul?

Great pics indeed Tony - did you get any of me in the 'towcar' BTW?

skydivepaul - 13/8/06 at 07:47 PM

Hi Kurt, I think i am cursed to not compete at olivers this year. i have my entry in and confirmed but after my track day at oulton park last friday i now have an MK Indy with a knackered R1 engine.

I havent stripped it down yet but i think it is completley wrecked.
I'll be coming over to olivers to watch.....again.
If i cant get the car ready for elvington i think i will be using Louise's Puma in the road going class.
what to do now for next year??? another bike engine or do i go for something more reliable. toyota 4age 1600, zetec se 1.7?
answers on a postcard please to the usual address

RWDKurt - 13/8/06 at 09:17 PM

Bad news Paul - sorry to hear about the problem. Any idea on cause?

If I were changing engines I'd be very tempted by a 4AGE or even an S2000. I don't know how easy it it to swap from bike back to car power though - probably a lot of work.

If you don't get a pass for the Puma at Elvington, let me know. You're welcome to share my car if you want - as long as you're gentle on my engine

skydivepaul - 13/8/06 at 10:11 PM

not sure what caused the problem, it was running great up to about 1/2 hour left of the day. came round cascades and athe engine started making horrible crunching and grinding noises, then coasted to a stop??

I think it will be a lot od work to swap to a car engine, different mounts, gearbox mounts new prop etc, i am not sure that the chassis i have got will take a car engine i will have to call MK and find out. I think my best bet would be to fix the R1 engine and then take it from there.

Thanks for the offer for the drive Kurt, i am sure the puma will be o.k. though. I will be up on sunday to see you at scarboro.

cheers

Paul
