AGM WLR update

Well it's taken 4 weeks to get the bonnet on but at last I'm getting somewhere. And I love the way those shiny bolts look like a pair of "evil" eyes. The car definitely looks a bit like Darth Vader. Pity though that the oil cooler and intercooler will obscure them - maybe I should fit some LEDs.

Looks really good! Is it going to be road legal or track car?

It'll be road legal and have as many track days as I can afford

that looks the dogs!! Quick question Alex, how easy is it to actually get in and out of it due to the width of the sides? Can't wait to see it completed.

Taken me ages to get the hood on my one as well. This bonnet set up is a nightmare. Does yours open smoothly?
I had to fight the following big time.

It sat odd on the nearside.
The centre nose cone would not seat correctly.
The sliding hinge kept seizing.
The sliding hinge destroyed the threaded bolt after 20-30 tests.
The top hinge bar does not leave enough contact area for a strong bond, big rist of hood flying open at speed. Esspecially as the nose cone error would have allow lift.

Plus I have to make some "Go Faster Bump" mods to get everything in but that's a problem of my own creation Has to be the trickiest bit of the build so far.

Still while I finish the hood scoops its roll bar cover time and that don't fit either

Yes, it requires a certain amount of agility to get in and out! And Peter thanks for the info re. Destroying the bolt and I wouldn't say it exactly opens smoothly but I fitted it and then went off the play cricket. So I haven't had a good chance to play with it yet.

Thanks for all the positive comments

Looks fantastic! I am shortly to start fitting the bonnet on my AGM so the comments above are slightly worrying! May be coming back for advice. I have thought about just making it completely detachable rather than hinging - I had an unfortunate experience with the bonnet of my previous build (Pilgrim Sumo) many years ago.

I love these WLRs - awesome looking beasties.

It would be great if they developed a full screen version with a full roof / hardtop.

Getting in and out of that would be a challenge!

Looks good... But are you going to get the outfit to match?

It is a big lump of GRP to heave on and off without a hinge. Risk of damage would be high me thinks.
Not sure it would be any easier to fit either, it's getting it square and the nose down that gives the biggest challange.
In the end I think it was worth the fight and with ally L sections either side of the boonet, well greased splitter and some good bonnet stays it all works well in the end.

Just upgrade the hinge bolts to stop them binding / shredding and the hing will work well.
The laugh is keeping and setting the hinge in the right place coz you can't see the damn thing
