what is the correct angle to use with the standard Vortx seats ? 20 degrees ?
Anyone using a HANS device with an MNR RT+ ?

What seat do you have? Is it a competition car?
I just have the standard fiberglass seat currently that MNR supplied (2006/7) - its not a competition car - just planning on using it for track days initially
have you checked you've got room to fit a hans? Some seats just will not be adequate.
You'd be better off trying one I'd say before buying. Also neck size is critical to get correct. It must fit perfectly really, and a full
fhr harness would be advisable!
I have a four point harness - and clearly it has to be the right size - medium for me - I was more interested if people had specific experience with this seat / car combo and the required rake ?
It is likely you will need a 20 deg unit. I assume you intend to convert your 4 point harness to a 5 or 6 point? You don't need a specific HANS
harness, any 3" harness will do but I would suggest that it will not work correctly without 5 or 6 point.
You will obviously need a Motorsport helmet with HANS posts as well.

I can't see any specific reference to 5 of 6 point harness but I do see that as a worthwhile upgrade

I've had 2 mnrs but never used hand in them. I now use a hans in a single seater but a 30deg medium fitting.
I'd guess at 20deg but it depends how everything's mounted.
I have run a HANS but I know have a Simpson Hybrid FHR.
HANS relies on the tightness of the shoulder belts to work, without a 6 point harness you'll struggle to keep the belts tensioned in an impact as
the buckle will ride upwards and release tension.
There are very specific requirements for shoulder belt angles as well.

Think I am good on the shoulder angles but the point regarding it riding up is worth more investigation
There's a supplier not far from me so I think a try before I buy might be worth while - they reopen next week so a trip out next Saturday is on

You miss-understand. Either a 3" non-HANS harness or a 2" HANS Harness will do for FHR. The only issue is that with a HANS harness you
must use a FHR, a non-HANS harness allows the use of a FHR or allows the use without a FHR.

I suspect the 'road-going' use of FHR with cars that have harnesses will not be far away. Don't forget Mark that you will need to comply with the 2016 Bluebook wrt ROPS regardless of the road-going or otherwise status of the kitcar.

My little car is already log booked and has an approved rear hoop, I had not noticed a requirement for a full cage, is this coming?
Will this apply to road going cars as I am not going put a hoop into my DB7....

A 20 degree will suit most applications. Like Dan I run a single seater and use a 20 degree HANS unit with 6 point mountings. If you have the
mountings in the correct place it will not ride up. You might also note that if you fit HANS particular belts (2" shoulder straps) you will
not be able to use the car without the HANS unit at an MSA event. I use the 3" and they do not slip off.

Thanks for the clarification Jeff, mine is made to blue book standards so I am happy it complies.
I do wonder at some fury's etc as the stays do not go to the top corners and some cars have an extra bent hoop to achieve helmet height which has
always looked wrong to me.

Bearing in mind that MNR run race cars in the 750MC and all their drivers use HANS why not give them a ring. Marc should know exactly what you need.

That's a shame Jeff, as I am only fitting a tatty body to my locost frame sawing a few holes does not bother me, it's very hard to make a
neat job and keep the body detachable.
The stays do not have to go backwards, could you not take a pair forward and land under the scuttle?
According to the MSA Technical Dept they must go backwards or fit a full cage...
In that case a whole host of cars will be in the welding shop!
When I fitted an MSA spec hoop in my landrover I built up platforms out of 1/4" steel plate that sat flush with the boot floor then made
equivilent plates that bolted through as per the spec which allowed me to unbolt the cage to remove the body plus only minor holes in the tub, this
could be an option?
On my tub I have cut slotted holes so I can lift the body, I need to make a panel from the rear bulkhead to infill to complete.

seat belts are currently 2 inch and need to be 3 inch, I don't want the HANS specific ones as I want to choose when to use HANS
needs a 5th or ideally 6th mounting point that I don't have currently for the belts, and where to put that
and then we have the HANS and helmet to consider
