Breakdown Cover
coozer - 10/9/09 at 10:57 AM

I opted for recovery on my MNR policy and it is a bit hefty at £50 I think now.

I've trawled through the net looking for cover that i can use on all my vehicles.

What I want is recovery, os if it stops or I crash it they get me home. I can cope with most things going wrong so recovery is the amin thing.

What can you guys recommend? Do you think the £50 cover on the kit should be extended onto my tintop, I can only drive one at a time!

well, with RAC, i'm sure you're covered for any car you're in, even if you are a passenger in your friends car. i'm pretty sure thats on all their levels. not sure what that means for kit cars though. but if you get it on your tin top, and you're out in the mnr, you should be covered ok

Coozer, that ever you get make sure that you get what you want.

I have RAC for all my cars, (historicaly thing) but as far as I can tell they do not necessarily cover me for a crash. A breakdown , no worries, but a crash can be a different kettle of fish. What RAC for example offer is breakdown cover - not accident cover as I found out to my cost.

might be worth double checking what you have got on the current deal?

cheers
Craig

I'm with AutoAid - £37 a year for you+wife for any car you are in. It's a pay and claim back system.

I pay x amount per month for my bank account, which covers me for rac, travel cover etc etc etc, and this for myself and my partner, because it is a joint bank account.

I know this is probably more expensive then just paying for breakdown cover for any car i happen to be in, but all the other benefits that come with it.

Or you may find that you are already paying a charge for your account, and you are covered, then you are saving money!!!

I use Brittania.

Green flag covered my MNR and Peugeot on 1 policy. It was about £20 more for 2 cars than 1. They recovered my several times in the MNR with no fuss.

I have full european breakdown included as part of my insurance (via my brokers - Sureterm/Hegarty/Admiral) on all of my cars. Much cheaper. Be careful with the small print that there is no cap on recovery costs.

+1.

Recommended by Martin Lewis on moneysavingexpert.com - Don't be put off by pay and reclaim system as they have a solid reputation to repay within a week or two. The cover is pretty broad ranging too.

One thing I forgot - it's UK only, so if you are planning to go abroad you would need to check on the cost of separate cover for that

ADAC !!! ADAC !!! ADAC !!!

seriously, I cannot recommend ADAC highly enough.

For those who dont know, ADAC are a German recovery firm, if you call them out in the UK (you phone Germany but they speak English fine) you get attended by the AA.

My Tiger broke out on the track at Llandow last Saturday and not only did they recover me when I wanted and to wherever I wanted (I had mine taken to Mr Henderson's garage - he also deserves a mention for being a huge help) but the AA drivers could not believe the level of cover I had (basically every box ticked) and how little I'd paid - they said their own staff discount didnt even come close.

ADAC plus, European cover 79.50 euro's

(I was even offered a free hire car when they called up to make sure everything was going ok).

btw, ADAC cover is also an essential thing to have should you happen to have a coming together with Nurburgring armco.... (tho thankfully I havent tested that one).
