Tintop Windscreen replacement - can I claim?
Dangle_kt - 28/3/10 at 05:08 PM

Got a dirty great big crack at the bottom of my windscreen, about 6 inches long

Need to get it fixed, but can I claim off ins?

I dont have agreed windscreen cover, and I'm TPF&T, but I also would rather avoid paying £200 to get some random man in a van to fit a new one...

Any ideas?

Id say TPF&T and no screen cover is exactly what it says on the tin lol

it,s worth ringing around the indies,i was charged £50 for a job the majors were stitching up the ins co,s for hundreds for

IMHO if it is not stated in your insurance cover then the chances are that you do not have cover.

If the crack is not in your vision then you do not need to replace it at the moment. Shop around and you may be able to get one fitted a lot cheaper. 'some random man in a van' may be your best bet.

i was hoping i might have misunderstood the paperwork... oh well does no harm to ask i suppose.

Another option would be to buy one from the scrappy's and pay someone to fit it. Would work out alot cheaper than a new screen.

These days TPF&T is usually dearer than fully comp.

I passed an MOT with a 2ft crack that ran across the bottom of the screen just under the wiper blades.

I think its ok if the crack is outside of the swept area. Iv always been asked if the crack is in the swept area when i have claimed for a windscreen.
