Okay, I'm 17 and i was entertaining the idea of a Locost 1300. The obvious issue being 17 is the insurance, does anybody have any idea how much it's going to cost??
your 17 so im guessing lots if you can find a company that will insure you. most wont touch you until your 21.
I think you're going to need a bucket load of cash!
Start your build now from the Champion book and by the time you've finished it no problem you'll be at least 24 married with 3 kids.
Cheers,
Bob
as others have said i afraid, most won't touch you until your 21!
no harm in building early then, the average build is a few years i would say
I don't know if you can do it with specialist insurance but wouldn't the old, on mums insurance trick work? It's technically insurance fraud of course but alot of people do it with regular car insurance.
Eddie99 started building at about the same age as you, possibly a little earlier, now studying automotive engineering.
He did a great job with a little help here and there.
Stuart has a 1.6 Pinto registered and insured and he is a younger builder, would be worth talking to them, init
Be about £3000
Buy an original mini, I saw that somebody got one insured for about £650 at 17
Then build the car you want and fiddle with the mini. The mini won't lose money either
Besides minis are still very cool cars, thinking about one for my brood. Good for autotesting too

Getting harder to get insurance for young drivers from the sound of some of the threads on here in the last year or so. As a compromise between the classic route (mini) and the Locost how a bout a 1300 Spitfire? I have a friend who's 2 sons both run one. Cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to fix and a bit more practical than a Locost day to day.
Why pay car insurance ever again?
For just one easy payment you can have lifetime insurance for any vehicle!
Just -
"Make a specified deposit (£500,000 as of 1991) with the Accountant General of the Supreme Court, against their liability for injuries to others
(including passengers) and for damage to other persons' property resulting from use of a vehicle on a public road or in other public
places."

Have alook at Quantums 2 +3 with a hard and soft top- the club do their own insurance through Footman James or Flux and get a very good deal, young
drivers just get bundled in with the rest, best deal we could find. You would need tojoin the club ahead of a purchase I think.

Its not that bad mate, Give adrian flux a call, I was insured with them untill last year and it was just over £1000 for a 1.8 Turbo, and I was 19, with no crashes but no ncb & 3 points!
Dunno about 17 but at 19 I had a GTM Libra Vvc and now have a R1 fisher fury at 20. Both with Adrian flux....fill the online form in and you'll get something back tomorrow morning probs
Welcome to the MAD HOUSE
Why not try 2Gether Ins look at the top of the insurance page on here [just above your post ] ask for Gary and tell them you are off here [ locost

Thanks for all the replies guys... and to be quite honest i see anything under £2300 (which i was quoted for my brothers 2004 1.2 clio) as reasonable bearing in mind the locost route would be much more enjoyable, plus i'd like a vehicle i could do just about all the work on myself.
Last time i looked for insurance it was with footman james on the 1.8 value 8k just before i was 18 and was £1500 region.
hi, i had mine for my first car at 17, it was 1000, then 18 it was 850 and 19it is 700.
so not bad and a lot of car for the money.
all with footman James, phone them up, and do not take no as the answer, i s poke to a lovely lady, and she gotted it sorted for me.
You will have to start saving now till your 21 to insure anything like a Lupo which will cost around £3000 Fully Comp and thats really shit, Forget a
Kit Car, they will rape you for thousands I think.
