Hi, just placed a deposit on a very nice Indy (R1 engine) and have been calling a few places to get insurance quotes.

I'm 44 and have 4 Years NCB on my other car but 6 points for a couple of SP30s last Year.

I was quoted £341 by Footman James, £211 by 2Gether, and this morning I received an e-mail with a rather good quote of £98.12 from TR Youngs Insurance Brokers. Only £50 excess too.

All are fully comp quotes - the 2Gether quote was parts only, but by the sounds of it, a parts only policy seems ok for a kit car - I guess the point is you build them yourself, so save insurance premium by carrying out the labour part of any repairs yourself. So....... £98.12, not bad at all that is it?

I do wonder if the cover is that good, so I'll be asking for more policy details.

The guy at 2Gether said that the NCB makes no difference on their policy, so I assume you don't accrue them. Not too worried at those prices, I'm used to paying £700 or so for and Impreza, and £400 for a Freelander.

You dont accrue no claims but the no claims you go in with helps, so your no claims of 4 years counts for nothing unless they are happy to mirror it as you cant use your no claims on two cars. Does seem very cheap.

are you sure its motorbike engine quote?

Some of the less familar insurers assume its a tiny 1 car engine pumping out 60bhp or something, not a rip snorting 160bhp superbike lump.

Worth checking as otherwise it will be useless when it comes to making a claim.

I am with 2gether, aged 58 with limited mileage and mine is £100 fully comp on an MK Indy-Fireblade

I agree with Dangle, as my 7 is £95 fully comp with any car engine up to 1600cc, but with a bike engine regardless of CC was about £130 a year more total cost would of been about £225

2gether asked specifically about the bike engine, and the chap had to go away for a while to get the quote.

The TR Youngs quote came as a result of an online form I completed, but it did ask the question "does it have a motorbike engine".

I'll still be checking it out though - cheapest isn't often best ;0
