Comprehensive down to "Laid Up" cover

I've SORNed my car for the Winter (going abroad for a few months tomorrow) and I was thinking of reducing my comprehensive cover to TPFT so that I could get some money back while still building up no claims bonus. I phoned Adrian Flux, my insurer, this afternoon and they said they said they can't do TPFT because of the car's value, but they can do laid up cover for £66. It's too late for me to phone them up again tonight, so can anyone tell me if laid up cover would be considered a new policy and I'd lose the time built up towards a year of NCB? Or would it be the same policy but a step below third party? I have a feeling I know the answer but would like some sort of confirmation.

I've always been insured on other people's cars and I really want to get a full year of my own insurance, which is why I'm reluctant to just cancel the policy.

Is it a kit car you're referring to? If so, you probably have it insured on a specialist limited mileage policy which don't attract discounts towards NCBs.

It's a kit on limited mileage, yes. But perhaps "no claims bonus" was the wrong choice of words. Some insurance companies are happy with just proof of no claims. I think a lot of companies also differentiate between named drivers and main drivers on previous policies.
