I am trying to find a car engine oil pump to use on the lubrication system of my jet engine. Does anyone know of any oil pumps that come more or less
"ready" to use. IE I can just bolt on a motor to drive it and possibly a few bits and pieces to get the oil in/out of the pump? A lot have
crazy castings or require the engine block to get the oil into/out of the pump unit.
The only thing I have found so far is the VW beetle pump..Would be ideal but I wonder if there is something more complete that I can get off the
shelf?
Whatever pump I use it has to be able to do the following:
150 degrees C fluid temps
50-80 Psi even when oil is hot

Yes I had been looking at the shurflo pumps. There is one specific model that has suitable materials for hot oil.. But its £120... I know it would do
the job but its rather a lot of cash!..
Can't decide if I should just spunk out on the shurflo and stop messing about experimenting...... Experimentation with other pumps could save me
£50... or ruin the engine... when the pump fails
Theres a guy with a homemade gas turbine engine who used a power steering pump. i think he used a small petrol engine to drive it, but i would have thought a cordless drill or pillar drill motor could be used.
A Danfoss oil pump from a domestic or commercial heating boiler possibly, they'll pump kerosene and diesel at pretty high pressures and are
completely sealed and shaft driven so hopefully they'd pump oil too.

need to remember that pumps don't create pressure, only displacement. The flow restriction the turbo has will create the pressure. Most of these big turbos will need a few liters a minute when warm to achieve 60psi or more. oil cooler is a must too - avoid putting it on the drain side, they don't like back pressure.

I have a danfoss pump for the fuel oil
Their pumps seem to be only rated for fluid temps of around 70c... Not sure how well they would cope with much higher temps... seem pretty solid pumps
though.
I have a nice alloy oil cooler, filter block and header tank waiting to go. Just needed a decent pump.
You are right about pumps just providing displacement. Perhaps a rotary vane pump might be better than a gear pump..hmmm

Not sure of the pressures or temperatures they stand, but I bet plenty of people on here have them kicking round from their builds.... A power
steering pump?
Might be worth a try for next to nowt, and worth fitting gauges anyway to keep an eye on pressures etc.
I'm sure there will be a use for a stand alone oil pump it's just thinking of it!.. Generators, A/C, diggers, racing cars to warm up n cool
down, aeroplanes etc
