young persons insurance
Does anyone know the best place for a yound person (18) to get insurance for a 205 1.6 gti.
Ive always loved the 205 gtis, and i think a 1.9 is a pushing it a bit for my age, so am considering a 1.6.
Basically ive got rd of my zxr400, now either looking for another bike (possibly R6 or rvf400) or, for more practicality, a quickish car.
Pros of bike is quicker, more fun, cheaper to insure.
Pros of car, cheaper to buy, more practical, easier to have at uni if i decide to bring it, ill still be fine in bad weather.
Cons of bike, hardly practical, the ride 100+ miles to uni could be tough on it, more expensive to buy, wont like bad weather in it.
Cons of car, not as fast/fun, and higher insurance.
So Basically to the question... wheres best to look for cheaper insurance for a 1.6 car? If i can get low insurance it might swing it in favour of the
car.
and has anyone got any opinions on the 205 1.6 gti?
Thanks
Mikkel

Be a named driver on your parents insurance and 1.6 wont be that bad.

Thats what i was on the old car we had when i was living at home,
But its hard to claim im not the main driver when the car will be in birmingham alot of the year. Otherwise i would have done that, plus i wont build
any NCB being a named driver

I had a 205 gti 1.6 when I was 19 under my own insurance 1 years no claims and was about 1200 from Admiral.
I did the 10 months bonus accelerator meaning they would give you a years no claims after 10 months, with the indy insurance in mind

Ahh yes, normal problem. Another vote for Admiral/Elephant. They're bascially the same company.
Try confused.com, see who quote is from, then go direct to them and you'll save a bit more.

try everyone, not just the search engines.i'm quite fortunate i can nail the phone in work but often local brokers in the yellow pages will bend
over backwards to try and have your business

Have you tried quinn direct? I paid £1100 for my first year on a 1.1 106 through churchill, a friend of mine paid £200 more through quinn direct for a
1.6 saxo vt(s/r? Can never remember which one is which but the one that has more power).

Adrian flux insured my 106 gti when i was 18 for 1800quid then 1200 the year after. They were also cheapest on my 205 1.9gti but i cant remember how
much that was. Join a pug owners club, they give you a discount for that.

Miks15, what you want is a classic insurance policy if you can find one to insure an 18 yo.
I got the Jag when i was 19 (insurance cost £1200) but wasnt allowed to go on classic insurance till i was 21.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Im on a named driver policy. And if i stay with the company, i get NCB from whenever i swap. So if i am named for 2 years i get 2years NCB when i
quote for my 3rd year. And after that 3rd year if i change i will have the 1years NCB. Seems pointless if you dont change but im hoping
admiral/elephant will stay cheap
