Clean licence

Keep away from those speed cameras guys, I was a bit bored this morning and thought I'd have a quick check on what next year's insurance would be like without my 2 speeding tickets...

300 quid less!

It doesn't make sense does it!!

My mate has just been quoted £1800 for a Pug 106 Rallye, trackday car, because he's fitted a rollcage!!

Last year it was £800, and that was with, bike TB's, GTI-6 gearbox, wilwood brakes, stripped out with 2 buckets and harnesses, poly windows, GRP panels, coilovers, and NOS.

So, it costs him £1000 extra to fit a safety item!!!

He's now took it out, so the car is less safe...

Shame that about the pug! But beware, I knew a lad who had an XE nova who had had a bump (roll-cage fitted). He then used his other car (a 1.6 GTE nova/corsa) whilst the XE got repaired. Without any apparent reason, his GTE left the road in an accident and he died on the scene. Most people beleive the cage would have saved his life.

Sad story but I am a firm beleiver in a cage, 1000 quid more on the insurance or not.

It's a bolt-in cage, and he is going to fit it for trackdays only(he trailer's it to trackdays), then remove it for normal driving.

He doesn't drive it often on the road, it's mainly just going to shows, or to have work done on it. The rest of the time, it's sat in the back of the workshop at his work.

Like he said, with the interior fully stripped, and his cordless, impact gun, he can fit it in about 45 minutes.

I suppose the insurers think if you've got a roll cage fitted you're more likely to drive it in such a way as to need it but it does seem a bit harsh.

I'm a smug git cos my license is as clean as the day it arrived Although a fair proportion of that might be good luck!

Roll cages in road cars are not a good idea generally! Unless you want to wear a skid lid all the time you are driving it that is, and your passengers too. The problem is that when your head hits a steel tube (even with some padding around it) it tends to damage your head a lot more than the tube!

Couldn't agree more, although with proper cage padding (not pipe-lagging, it's far too soft to be any use), the problem should be mitigated to a reasonable degree.

Car insurance prices have gone up by an average of 14%. Unfortunately, I live in Bradford, the uninsured capital of England.

"On a regional basis, drivers in Manchester and Merseyside saw the largest quarterly increase of 18.2%, following one of the lowest rises in the first quarter, while, on a postcode level, drivers in Bradford, East London and Ilford faced the biggest price hikes of 20%."

Oh I knew it was going to make a difference, but not £1200 quid over the course of it...

That was a good one to tell my boss when he moaned that I was taking too long
