Home insurance?

Our home buildings and contents renewal has come in and its shot up!

Been on Go Compare and they can get it down from £300 to £135 but that means ditching the full accidental damage cover we have.

Is it worth it? Considering we havent made a claim for since we moved here 10 years ago I'm wondering if its an unnecessary expense.

What type of cover have all you savvy dudes got?

Steve

Look at it the other way I dropped my 32" Sony Bravia tv and claimed and they paid for a new one at arround £600 ( couple of years ago ). But will be keeping accidental cover as the troublsesome threesome is now FULLY mobile (everywhere at 200 miles an hour )

so I suppose it depends how many expensive bit you have and the risk of them getting damaged.

Hi,

I had the same with my house ins, I also looked around and found a far cheaper option, so I phoned my original supplier and told them I wanted to cancel my policy, they price matched without question, worth trying.

Regards

Bob

I renewed our buildings & contents insurance beginning of the week, ended up going with LV as they cam eout cheapest at £139.00 - considering I've only had 1 year of buildings and 2 years of contents previously (rented first flat, then purchased house a year ago) I thought that was quite reasonable.

I had the option of including accidental cover and cover when off the property, but declined them both. My theory is that I'll only ever take bits away on holiday with me, and then they're usually covered by separate holiday insurance. And as for accidental damage, I've just gotta be careful around the house!!! My excess is £250, contents is up to £60k (lots of toys!), but I had to call about 4 organisations and 2 brokers to get that price.

Unfortunately there's no brand loyalty now, and my theory is that why should I return to a company who promise to only price match? Why wasn't their best price to start with? Or perhaps I'm just turning prematurely into an old and grumpy man!
