Who's Recommended

The Suttol is two years old on the 1st May so time to get a few insurance quotes.

Who's hot, and who's snot ?

A Plan .......... I'm with them now. £10k fixed value, but only honour that for first 2 years. (so time to move on)
Adrian Fux...... Overcharged me for years with my bikes, then offered to lower premium when I found others half the price.
Frank Pickles.... Just spoke to a very nice lady. Sadly no longer doing new policies. They are honouring renewals.

Is anyone left?

All help appreciated,
Paul G

2gether and FJ won't discuss as apparently May !st is too far away to even consider. Ring back in 3-4 weeks.

It's just that I've been in hospital and I'm now sitting here with nothing to do so thought I'd push buttons on the pooter.

AIB, I have 2 kits and a transit with them. They will auto renew, but not without contacting you first.

I just noticed this bit. I don't know of any insurance company who will give you a quote more than 28 days in advance.

I have spoken to one nice chap. Russell at Classic line.

He knew what a Caterham etc was, but wanted pics of mine as it was a one off. Have emailed them off.

I'm beginning to think you are right Slimy38

Just thought that some good might come of my pneumonia

Sureterm direct gave me the most competitive price for a £12k valuation and limited mileage.

My agreed value with A-Plan applies after more than two years of age. Your car just needs to be re-assessed every two years, i.e. provide recent pictures.

That's interesting. Reassessed eh ? Mmmm.

With the clutch mods, the Wosp geared starter, the trumpets & airbox cold air inlet system, and all those silver trophies its won,

it's now worth MORE

Cheers. I keep that in mind David.

The two companies that did talk have also got back and said they will contact me in a couple of weeks.

Last year I couldn't get the online tax to work as that old chestnut "needs an MOT" comes up.
The chap down the local Post Office however must have a better link to the DVLA as he managed to do it,
but he does want to see the log book and insurance to make sure I'm not pulling a fast one. Fair enough.

This year the 1st of May falls on a Bank Holiday Monday, and consequently Sunday is the 30th April. (Stoneleigh weekend)
So latest I can tax (ideally) will be 27th / 28th so I would need the insurance docs in my hand before then.

I intend to tax for 6 months, then tax for 12 in future so to keep it separate from insurance. MOT isn't a prob as I
can book that in for 1st April or thereabouts. Common sense prevails as they do allow a month in advance.

If I want to go to Stoneleigh I can see the trailer coming into the equation.

Cheers

update

I phoned Aplan and asked about renewing the agreed value and they said they required an up-to-date set of photo's.

Polished the car, took the pics, emailed them off, and called them later in the day to make sure they had received them.
No prob. Was told everything was in hand and that I would hear from them shortly.
This morning the renewal came through the post, up £40 from last year and no agreed value. Page two said if I wanted
agreed value I was to send pics and a new premium would be set.

Of the others I have contacted in one way or another only Sureterm came back, and with the same price as I payed last year
to Aplan, £130, so guess what? They now have my money.

Cheers Se7ensport. Give yourself a pat on the back.

The strange thing is, both my old insurance and the new one are both with the same company, Hyway.

Now to get the tax down the Post Office with no MOT. (Tues) Wish me luck.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi just found this a bit late in the day to help you but might be useful to others scanning the search menu
We have used Graham Sykes in Exeter for a variety of kit cars and older vehicles Jagos Scamp Tr7 Tr7V8 etc I always phone them and have found them competitive on price with cheap breakdown cover which we have used a few times and the service is great

Or so I thought.......
From Sureterm:-

Please send pictures of your car.

Thank you for the pictures. Please fill in the Agreed Value form.

Thank you for the agreed value form. Please send pictures of your car.

We have forwarded your form and pictures on to the relative department.

I pointed out 2 days ago that we only have 2 working days remaining this month and I would like to be at Stoneleigh 30th/1st.

Unless I get an email today then I haven't got agreed cover.

Amazing how they can take your money in 6 nano seconds, but can't arrange cover with agreed value in 4 weeks.

Agreed, I have been with A-plan on an agreed value for over 6 years, just renew the pictures and get their confirmation every 2 years.

They told me that it must be re-assessed and that the value would be less.

I agree that new production cars will automatically drop in value but I don't think the same applies to scratch builds or kits.

What really annoyed me was I tried to get the quote process started early but still ended up having to trailer to Stoneleigh
as it wasn't covered till May 2nd.
