Got an insurance quote... (BEC, 20 yo)
Hi all,
Got an online insurance quote from Adrian Flux:
MK Indy R1,
I'm 20 years old, been driving for 3 years next month. No claims.
Added my dad on to it as well as a named driver (not claimed since 1823)
Anybody want to guess if they quoted me? And if so, how much?
James

Don't know how much your insurance would be but am impressed at your dads age!!! No accidents since 1823, did they even have roads back then?

Perhaps wanted to run some searches on your dad who is at least 186 years old before quoting?

Haha, well I wouldn't mind either, but I'd like the faster, more impractical one more (when its finished!)

At the age of 19 i bought a westfield, my insurance with footman james was £350 a year based on 6000 miles.
It's more than that now for the ginetta or the tintop!

insure it in your dads name and put you on as a named driver, will be much cheaper

Thats what I would like to do, but unfortunately it seems I can't do this until I am at least 25 with most insurance companies

I used to have a fleet policy insurance with footman james. I said I was a private collector and managed to get VERY cheap quote of 250 a year
without having to declare modifications to the tin-tops. Might be an alternative route to take?
But I had to buy and sell/scrap 3 cars a year which was extremely easy and sometimes this paid for the insurance!! True locost fashion!!!

I think its worth mentioning that if you insure your vehicle in a parents name and go down as a named driver, but your the primary user, its against
most T&Cs.
Sure you might not get caught. But they'll cancel the policy if they find out. And if they find out cos your in an accident, you'll get
nothing. Even if it wasn't your fault.

The answer:
£750
Not bad at all I think! (3000 miles)
That was just with an online form, sure I can haggle a little more. Plus with the 15% Pistonheads discount, its easily less that the insurance for me
on my dads car (BMW E36 316i)
What do you all think?

true, but if you are only driving it once a week how can you say who is the primary driver if there ever was an accident

god I remember my first years insurance on a 1.4 ford escort, £1800 quid!
now I'm 23 with 6 years no claims on a 2.0 mondeo tdci it's down to £300 quid a year fully comp with protected NCB's. The missus has
just bought a 57 plate Fiesta Zetec-s turbo diesel and it's £235 quid a year for her (24 years old with 3 years ncb, parked on driveway in
york)....
And the best thing about her insurance... it's only 30 quid more to add me as a second driver for the year it's a right rocket!
