Temporary Insurance?

I want to MoT my old car that's on SORN, so that I can sell it . It's a one-off 2CV special. Has anyone any experience of getting insurance for a few days for an oddball car?

I've heard from others that the best way to get temp insurance on an old and/or modified car is to ring up your specialist insurer, and ask them for one/two day cover for the extra car.

Some (apparently) even do this for free.

None of the usual one-day insurance companies will insure it. There is one that isn't picky in terms of issuing insurance for the registration, but I'm certain that they'd never honour it if you actually needed to claim.

Remember, you also can't use temp insurance to tax a vehicle.

If you're insured on another car I'd ring that insurer. Swiftcover and Admiral and many others offer this. For me to add my Passat to my Swiftcover policy on a temp basis costs me about £13 a week. I'm allowed 60 days temp cover.

It may be a bit steep but it'll probably work out easier and cheaper than temp specialists.

When I tried to get temp cover for KC recently (in order to sell) Adrian Flux actually recommended that I took a normal policy and then cancel. Cost me about £70 in the end for two months. Not cheap or that reasonable but it was a full normal policy and not a temp one.
