Insurance - does this sound OK?

A friend says that if he adds me to his insurance policy, the cost of the policy will reduce because I'm "older" and I've got a decent driving record. His driving record is OK too but he's a fair bit younger than me.

We live within reasonable distance of each other and there is a slight chance I might drive his car some time (except it's a pile of poo and I don't want to if I can help it), so I don't feel we would be stating something dishonest or misleading to the insurance company. He would be stated as the primary user.

I'm wary because it seems too good to be true. Is there a catch? Am I potentially landing myself with problems if he gets involved in a claim?

Can't really see a problem as long as it is in his name and he is as you said - the main driver.

It is true that it can bring prices down. I used to put my father down on my polices when I was younger for the same reason. There is nothing dodgy about it, and there is no reason it can effect you if he claims, unless you were driving his car at the time of course.

True, add another respected driver and it goes down, I am on my daughters and it went down by a couple of hundred.... the wierd way of insurance as I do not expect to ever drive the car.

also a lot to be said for putting your wife/ partner on your policy. My wife only had a provisional and it used to save me £50

When you renew your insurance there's the question "do you have use of another vehicle" does the answer affect your renewal cost ?
I have no idea, just idly wondering.
