right got new lump in and its running! used 2 sump gaskets to clear the crank after afew miles the crank oil seal started to leak so new one of them went in all is good un till (10 miles later @ about 20mph) the cam belt tensioner decided to die the belt came off, all the valves are bent so im about £400 out of pocket and i still cant drive im westy CACK!!!!!!!!

was it a late engine with the plastic tensioners?

sorry to hear of your misfortune, maybe next time you'll put a cambelt kit on it??!

you just never know with second hand high milage units out of hot hatches or off ebay

the engine was out of a 93 cav with a cat

you live and learn cam belt kit is a must from now on !!!

do you still have the head from the other engine? was that all intact (valves etc), can it be a straight swap? head bolts/gaskets only come to about £50..

yes the head from the other engine is ok and im concidering swapping it over, i need a head gasket kit / head bolts / cam belt KIT!!!!! and the head skimmed i could prob get it all dun for around £100

good luck mate- the bad luck has to run out soon i've been involved in a few xe nightmares myself but they're good engines! although not as good as a bike engine.................
