One-sided Insurance or what?

We are trailering the F27 to Bovington this w/end.
My insurance co. has declined to cover No1 son (28, clean licence etc. etc.) on my "mature" policy so he rang his insurers (Esure) to ask about towing with my car but using his all vehicles 3rd party cover on his fully comp. policy.
They have said that the cover is only for emergency use (nothing in the policy to that effect) and since this is a planned journey they will decline any third party claim in the event of an accident.
Sounds like a typical load of insurance company bo**cks. They're only too happy to take your money but don't want to meet their obligations.
Anyone know of this being the case or had any prev. experience?
Cheers, Pewe

Usual nonsense - I won't go into my issues with Tesco as it makes my blood boil.

Pretty much all insurers have the same clause/condition attached to that part of the policy, although bizarrely none of them seem to quote it in their policy books. I think partly because defining what an emergency is would be too difficult.

On a similar note I've never come across a claim being declined when using driving other cars cover, and I've seen a heck of a lot of claims.

That gives me an idea. Simply plan to drive yourself then make yourself unable, ie lose your glasses, drink 2 beers etc, and son then needs to step in as it is now an emergancy.

Thanks guys. Yes I think it will be a case of tripping over a tank or having one drive over my foot whilst we are there - but on second thoughts.....

Day insurance? It's about £13 quid for me to take my missus's car, mind you if you're towing something it might be a different matter...
