seven insurance with poor driving history

23 year old male, license gained in january 04, lost in may 09 for a dd40, will be back again in june '10 all things being equal.

no points, 2 years NCB, no convictions.

2.3l turbocharged scratchbuilt locost project....

Is anyone likely to even quote me or should I take the build nice and slowly on the basis I cant use it for a few years anyway?

how dangerous was your driving? depends on whether the sees you still as a dangerous driver? have they made you go on a course etc?

I drove up a backroad unaware of the unmarked car that pulled in behind me and they couldnt keep up. I pulled into my house after a mile and a half and they "chased" me for the next 12 before calling off the pursuit.

Some invented pedestrians and an undecided number of dogs along the road and they managed to make it stand up in court.

There was no accident, no other witnesses, no other traffic, it was dry, clear, 10pm in springtime with no leaves on the trees.

No course, just the obligatory 12mo ban and 70min resit

it might not be too bad you know. my mate got a 15 month ban for drink driving, and a bit of dangerous driving too. he also ran away from the scene.

Description
Description

follow the red line, took the corner too fast, went over the grass and pavement, and demolished the wall.

ok, so he bought a 1.6 corsa when he got his license back, and got insured for about £600 i think. kit cars insurance tends to be a lot lessi think. see the recent post about 2gether insurance, 23 year old insured for £160 or something.

could work out not too bad (maybe not great, but not too bad)

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

did they not have the blue lights and siren on? hmm, sounds like they're definitely at it

They said they did, but due to the nature of the road visual contact was limited.

Bottom line, I wouldnt have missed a whacking great pair of blue lights chasing me up the road!

The whole thing was a crock of **** but it is what it is and I hve to deal with it. I just want to know whether to press on hard and have something fun to drive next summer, or hang it up cos I cant drive it for another n years anyway!

(the alternative is if kit car insurance turns out to be cheap then itll be a daily driver for a while

Didn't bother to do the owners of the stray dogs then?

one copper stood up and said there was a couple out walking 2 dogs and they werent on leads (the passenger in the car)

The driver stood up in his seperate testimony and said there was a couple out walking a dog that wasnt on a lead.

My solicitor checked with him he said one dog, then asked him what hed say if he was told his partner had said two dogs? to which he replied he was busy driving so his partner was likely to be more accurate, but the dog(s) were definately not on leads.

So either I passed 2 people and dog(s) and never noticed them at the side of the road in broad daylight, or the police were making it up ahich is why the number of dogs we recollect varies between 0 and 2!

The sheriff evidently conceived the former was more likely (!)

Just keep an eye on your no claims discount as they generally expire after 2 years.

yeah I know. It was certified when the policy ended a week before the ban, so it will only be an issue if I dont have a license/car within 12 months of the ban being lifted.

Strange that the policeman could say with certainty that there wasn't a tiny thin strip of leather yet could not recall how many dogs were not attached to this not existant lead..... Perhaps there weren't any dogs and therefore no need for a lead.

Police tell porkies. A mate got stopped once by the rozzers and they said they'd had the blue lights on for two miles and "why hadn't he stopped". Fact is I was sat in the boot of the car and had been watching them quietly driving behind us for all that time..... Load of bull shit.

As annoying as it must be for police when people get away with stuff, making stuff up to compensate is just plain wrong.....

What got me more than the police lying (that was expected) was the fact the sheriff believed them! There were so many inconsistencies that I'd have sent them flying from the court with a flea in their ear. the whole thing was a shambles from the off and how they ever got it to court, and eventually to a conviction is beyond me.

unfortunately however Im stuck with the hand ive been dealt now so the question is how to make the best of it!

My apprentice at work was banned for dangerous driving (12 month ban), which also took him over his 12 points. With his license back in hand, his quotation, 3rd party fire and theft on 1.0 Corsa was £1600.

A 2.3L Turbo is pretty unlikely, why don't you just have a 2.0 N/A, and have limited mileage?

Are you sure you don't have points after that?

I had a mess about online, and looked up a 1.8 caterham (closest thing they had) built this year with me being 30, 6 points for 2 sp30's, and 1 written off car. Add to that 18k miles a year and swmbo (clean and ncd) and Adrian Flux quoted me £350

Not bad when it's 900 for a diesel mondeo

yeah, clean license but I have to declare the ban for 5 years.

So that was a factory caterham? so not even specialist kit car insurance, just the type of vehicle?

Sounds promising

Yeah they couldn't do the kit version online, but I'm sure I put it as built myself...

You could always raise your voluntary excess if they do that kind of thing with a self built car?
