Quoted £3275 on a £150 car......
My daughter started looking for insurance on my 1.1 clio that cost £150.
So I had to laugh......18 y.o learner how much.......so she will have to keep phoning around till she finds some thing more reasonable.

endsleigh especially if shes a student.
+1 on what blake said. I used confused.com for insuring me as a young driver on my pug. I ended up getting it for less than my focus insurance.

Are you going for third partly only cover?
Anything more on such a cheap car is a total waste of money
There are specialist companies which deal in learners etc. Do a search on the web for them
tonnes of them like this -

Try www.youngladydriver.co.uk, i used them for my daughters insurance, they do six or twelve month policy's and were a lot cheaper than the
dozens of others i tried. Think we paid about £550 for her first 6 months policy on a 98 reg 106 diesel, then they give you a years ncd if you renew
for twelve months, she just paid £ 680 for a full years cover on an 06 plate C1 .

third party is more expensive for us youngsters whipster - unbelievable as that sounds.
Its been true every year I've gone for insurance so far
They've also cracked down on that "put your mum on the policy" thing, the cost of my policies the last two years have been the same
with or without my mum as a named driver.

remember, its not the value of YOUR car that its covering, its the value of the other persons cars you could potentially be hitting. Remember that and
then it doesn't sound so bad. Where as if you had a £30,000 car, you are less likely to want to hit other cars, so your premium will come down

its not even the other persons car, its the bus shelter full of school children at 1.5 million each (those kids are damn expensive)
Adding named drivers has always made a few quid difference to mine up to 2 drivers, 3 stops making a difference and 4 makes it start to go back up.
Ive found comp to be cheaper than tpft once with norwich union (now avviva) but not otherwise.
my sisters 20 and just passed her test and shes paying 600 on a corsa 1.4 with bells which also gives her windscreen cover and a thrid party extension
to drive other cars.

strangely I was recently told to put my girlfriend on my insurance as a named driver as it apparently reduces it, even though she's too scared
to drive my normal car. Was told that by a friend who works in insurance, seems you are less likely to drive badly if you within striking distance

on a closely related topic... i am currently looking for a small car for running about and also for when my daughter turns 17 in feb... been trying to
work out whats the cheapest car to insure available for under £1k
best so far is a 900cc Fiat Sieciento for about £350 TP F&T (thats just insurance for a 17y/o female learner - using that as a comparison with
other cars)
so can anyone else think of a cheaper car to insure?

Yup Fully Comprehensive is often cheaper than Third Party.
Put a Parent on the policy as a named driver.
I think small engined cars are often more expensive to insure than family saloons because the typical first car has been given a bad reputation
because statically young drivers crash them. So a cheap MK2 Mondeo, will be safer, faster, and cheaper to insure.

Not always, Quinn are a bit odd, my mate went to insure a modified saxo (don't laugh) with them and he saved loads over any other company, I
went to insure my standard 106 and they were more expensive then a lot of places!

Even mine is cheaper with my daddy on as a named driver - and i'm only 39 with IAM membership. Strange how its cheaper with an oldie on it - it
amazed me as he isnt an IAM member himself which is supposed to be worth an average of 10% off the premium.
