Tintop insurance

Here's the deal:
I'm 29, been driving for 12 years.
Accidents: car got nicked oct 05, recovered but burnt out, cost about £3800.
Also one accident nov 04 (sometimes counts now) my fault cost £3000
I've also got 2 speeding tickets (april and may 07) standard sp30 3 points each.
1 year's no claims as named driver

Missus is 30-something (she might well read this!) been driving 13 years, one accident even further back no points.
Full no claims as main driver

Car is a 2005 Mondeo 115 tdci, recently valued (by trade-in) at between £2800 and £3200.

How the hell has it gone up? I've seen people paying less for more powerful, more expensive cars. Can't say they have limited mileage because we've got it on about 8000 a year. It's on the drive at home and when I go to work in it, well it's a secured car park, I'm the security!

This next year we're looking about £500 (recently seen a guy on tv claim he's insured on a Lancia Delta for that much!) so are we looking in the wrong places? Do the people whose names are all over this section (Adrian Flux etc) insure standard tintops or is it purely because of my "history" (those tickets were just plain bad luck)?

i would say its becuase of your history raising it slightly.

Im 29 too, and have had points, and claims in the past, but for now im all clean...

my 05 astra estate 1.7cdti (80bhp) costs me £280/year to insure.

Im looking to swap for an 09 astra estate 1.9cdti SRI (150bhp) with the XP pack (body kit and 18" alloys) and after a few quotes it should be around £470/year to insure

in my experience over the last couple of years adrian flux insure all the bad boy racers as well, so your probably paying for a higher premium because of them, have you tried Garry @ 2gether, remember that insurance brokers will try to take anywhere between 5-20% cut of the premium so you have to barter them down!

i was with tesco as a named driver for 7 years with a premium of £200 on a corsa, then when i said i wanted my own policy, after i turn 25 and they raised my premium to £400! then when i started bartering i got them down to £317! £83 less!

Im 26, Fiancee is 22 and we pay just over 300 FC for a 1.6 Megane coupe. Thats with a company called Green insurance. I was only paying £700 three years ago on a UK Impreza Turbo. I think you really need to shop around alot more, you will find a cheaper deal somewhere.

P.s i also have 3 points for speeding.

Started driving in Uk at the age of 27

Clio 1.9 diesel 1994 insurance was £900 for 20K miles. (0 claim bonus)

Had an accident just before the insurance expired, took ages to clear so i had to get an insurance being on an accident that didn't clear hence my next's car insurance was for a
Clio Rsi 1.8 8v petrol 1994 Insurance was £950 for 30K miles

After the accident was resolved (got 2 years NCB) as i was not at fault, insurance went to £800

On my next renewal for the same car and same mileage haveing 3 years NCB insurance with Andrian Flux was £560 pounds as the car undertook some modifications

Changed to my next car but had to remain with AF as i had just bought the policy 1 month ago

Renault Laguna 1.8 16v petrol insurance was £450 again for 30K

All policies i had were Fully Comp. with £300 or £400 excess.

Also, No points at all. I would think i am really lucky. Done nearly 70K and haven't got a ticket. (knock on wood)

Go to the comparison websites, put in your details, and get out some quotes. Pick the best 3-4, and ring them all up, and ask them to quote again (normally different price to a comparison website). Then play one company off against the others until you get to a price you are happy with.

I am just 28, the Mrs is 27. I have no crashes (she has 1, full write off, her fault), no points for either of us. I have 8 years NCB on this car. On our 140bhp Honda Accord, I got it down to £270 with protected no claims, legal etc all thrown in. That was with Elephant, who matched a slightly fictional online quote I got from another company....

for tin tops try privilege or esure or admiral.

deffo shop around.

tbh £ 500 isn't that outrageous, consider yourslef you are not a 14 year old asked to pay £ 5,000 for a £ 200 mini!

I would say it's your claims history.
I'm with A-Plan and insure a 996 turbo for about £700/year (unlimited miles, £0 excess). I'm a few years older than you but in a bad postcode and full ncb. I expect it to go down on renewal as I've never paid more when I shop around.

Well my main problem is in 2 parts:
1. It should be going down after another claim free year.
2. It should really go down at some point in my life, and not just by adding another person!
