weber 40's or GSXR TB's?

Hi everyone

What will be the cheapest way to go?
I've been offered weber 40's and a gems ecu set to run on a 1.8 zetec.
I've already got GSXR 750 TB's on the car but having massive problems with the megasquirt ecu.

Been offered the webers for £300.

My engine is a 2.0 zetec with headwork and cams.

What are peoples thoughts please? I'm looking to sell the car as soon as its fixed..

40's are considered just enough fir a standard pinto, any thing more and the pinto needs 45's.
That said the 40's will work but the standard Zetec injection would probably be better

Maybe I'm better of leaving the car as it is and selling it as a none runner

I run GSXR 750 bodies on my ST170 lump, didn't like the megasquirt, but runs ok with an Omex, might not be the throttle bodies!

Dan.

The less I worked, the more i liked it.

I'm sure it's not the TB's but I don't really want to pay for a new ecu knowing that I want to sell the car.
Just thought the webers might of been a cheap idea.

A 16v engine will not like the older carbs, They make a specific model with 5 progresion drillings for the zetec.

I had a set of 152G's and it was still horrid.

Injection is the way forward.

So basically I either get a new ecu or sell the car as it is.
If I buy a new ecu I'll be looking at close to £1000 Inc mapping and everything.
If I sell the car as it is I don't think I'd loose much more than £1000 on a car that's not worth a great deal anyway (even fully working maybe only £5000 at the most)
What are peoples thoughts?

Why dont you just look for a cheap megasquirt ECU and install it and put a rough map on it to get it running reasonably well. There are a few people running 2.0 zetecs with uprated cams so im sure you will be able to sort a map that will run it reasonably well and then sell it as a runner that needs final mapping.
What is wrong with the existing Ecu? it may be a simple repair.

How good are you with wiring ?

I run a mondeo ecu and it really puts a smile on my face. I rate it much more than the webers as I demo'd it to a guy this afternoon.

I sold him all my spare's for next to bugger all.

He did how ever under stand that low cost = high work and was up for the challenge.

If you can fit a fiesta or mondeo inlet manifold into your engine bay and are GOOD with wires you will have it running for less than your bike Tb's will fetch on ebay.

The old megasquirt wiring has been replaced as it was chaffing on the bulk head. Now it keeps blowing coil packs, I'm thinking it must be wiring or I've fried the megasquirt.
I had a new loom fitted by a friend but unsure how well he has done with it as I didn't have any wiring diagrams for him to go off for the zetec ignition system.

I don't think anything has been changed in the megasquirt as I could never find anyone that could connect there laptop yo it.
It ran for 3 years without any faults before it had the wiring problem.

Sounds like you just need to find someone to sort out what you've already got. Are there any Megasquirt experts in your area who could assist, maybe for a reasonable fee ?
