Rip off

Well I have a Land rover discovery V8 (99) which I have owned for 8 years. I'm currently insured with sureterm. Now I've just bought a new car and need to park it on the drive as it is worth a lot more than my disco. When I phone sureterm to tell them of the change they told me that I'd have to cancel the policy as the policy I had would only cover if park on drive!!

I then asked for another quote "£550 she said" that +£200 I'm 38 6 years NCB own 2 other cars (one being the Tiger) which I'm claim free on. Mileage is limited to 3000 per annum value £3000. I paid £162 2 years ago for it!! The cheapest quote I could get was £350 which I still find steep, but I had to bit the bullet.

No wonder there are so many people driving around with no insurance.

Well that's my rant for today!!

Neil

I have a multicar policy from admiral for both of my tintops.
The work/commute car was a pug 106 diesel until it failed it's mot
last week.I am picking up a 206 1.9 hdi tomorrow,to replace it
and have just called admiral to change over.
I was paying £215 for the 106 and it has only gone up £30 for the year
for a newer and more expensive car.

Much respect to Admiral.

I'm well chuffed

Andy

Wouldnt have told them. If the car was stolen then you just have to say the car was parked on the road temporarily. I know insurers are bastards for trying to worm out of paying, but they cant expect your car to be in the garage every night, what if you stayed at a friends/relatives over night, would they expect you to use their garage?

had a nice letter today from my insurer.

my wife is a named driver and last year some tw@t put in a claim against her because they brushed wingmirrors and the glass came out of his wingmirror.
instead of calling me like we told him to and would have gladly gone to his place of work / home and fitted a new wing mirror for him.

but no he had to put a claim in!!!

my insurance now want and wait for this an additional £700.00 to put my wife as a named driver

she has 10+ years claim free
never had and accident or bump in all her driving life and she turns 40 this year

i will be changing insurers today

btw the car is a diesel vectra not a supercar

All bells and whistles mirrors are VERY expensive especially from the main stealers. A Vauxhall Omega mirror used to be £300.00+Vat +painting(+Vat) + Fitting(+Vat). And the Vectra is basically a replacement for the Omega, so.............

Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

I did toy around with this but for £300 is it worth the hastle of getting side swiped during the night then having to convince them it was park on the drive. And by the way it would just be my luck!!

Parking at your friends overnight is one thing, but I believe there are rules in policies that state something along the lines of:
If it is within XXX No. of yards/miles from the residence its insured at, then it needs to be on the drive/in garage/as policy etc etc

So the above would have been redundant!

(Ahem, I'm with you though - No way I'd have told them )
