Midlana Book 2nd edition
Is there much difference between the original book and the 2nd edition?

Dunno, I've got the first one. Might be worth asking Kurt over on his forum??
Might just be some updates as he did a lot of updates before publication.

I've got the 1st one as well, but can't decide whether to build one or not as I quite fancy an R1 Riot or something similar + I
don't do feet & inches always worked in metric

I'm going to use a turbo zetec to focus rs spec, looking for 350bhp and don't mind imperial but the way he's done in metric
fractions, 1.225 inches makes my mind boggle. Would have much rather it was 2 3/4"!!

I would have thought the new 1,6 ecoboost engine would be ideal for this car, this can be fairly easily modified to around 300HP.

Or possibly with a bit of modification to the rear end, a 2wd converted Scooby flat four (see SDR WR3 Storm) :-)

At least it makes it easier to convert to metric if its in decimal inches' - everything is just x 25.4.
It only becomes a problem if its sized for imperial materials and you've only got metric ones.... All those little 0.4mm's can add up to
a problem if your not careful....

I didn't know there was a second edition but from early comments I doubt the new edition will have metric.
As far as I know no one has produced a road worth car yet., here or any where other than kurts. One is close and another well under way and mine s two
tubs of parts and an engine

I've got the 2nd edition and I can assure you it's still in part inches. You could always calculate the sizes and mark this on the plans.
Other changes are explained on Kurts site, one of which is a coil bound option which I have and feels like it won't stand up to much abuse.
Personally Ive got a donor but keep changing my mind, getting side tracked into doing boring stuff or wasting my time on other sites. I'm also a
bit apprehensive as there's a few things I'm unsure/concerned about at this time. I'd also like a Riot (I really desire a j15) but I
have more free time than disposable cash at the moment. Light(ish) weight, 1.7 puma engined on a budget is my plan.

Coil bound ? Do you mean out board shocks ?
I love the Sylva kit but I won't ever fit. Like the Locost, I can make me fit a Midlana.

Coil bound as in the book has been bound by a coil to make it easier to open and stay open. It's handy to have if you use it as a manual but it
doesn't feel as robust and I can imagine a few pages ripping off as you build the car.

There are one or two dimension errors in the 1st edition - all the details/corrections are on the Midlana forum, but the 2nd edition has been
corrected. Other than that, pretty much the same I think. I was slightly tempted by having a coil bound copy for the workshop and the solid spine
binding for the house, but they aren't cheap so I got over it! I was perfectly happy to pay the price for my first copy because of the content.
Shame there isn't a significant discount for a second copy but I understand why not of course.
