Layup insurance
Due to working alot and most events I was hoping to attend, being cancelled I have been looking at SORNing my Fury and getting lay up insurance. My
insurance is due renewal and I can't see much point at the moment of renewing.
Does anyone else hae layup insurance or are thinking about it?
Also, it will be 3 years in June since my IVA so I guess I should be due the first MOT but what will be the rules on this, is it delayed 6 months like
other MOTs or will I have to get mine done?

You might find that TPF&T could be cheaper than layup. It was when I enquired. YMMV

Sky and Adrian Flux are both brokers with access to some unusual policies. Sky failed miserably for me on a standard car (weirdly were super cheap
(cheaper!) on a very highly modified car) but I've not tried them for layup.
I've just taken out a policy with AF and noticed they have layup too - this may be useful as I will likely be swapping the winter mud plugger
for a more fuel-friendly option in a month or so.
Really Insurance is too difficult to move about. Why does it have to be so difficult (and incur a 35 quid charge every time) to say "I want to
stop insurning that car, and start insuring this one". Or "I have 3 cars, only one can be driven at a time, please cover all for theft and
figure out what you want me to pay for the combination of risk from driving any one at a time.

Yep, totally agree.
It should be so much easier to insure for on road and layup if not using. I did see something a few months ago where there are people in London who
have a basic F&T insurance and then use an app on their phone to notify when they take there car out for a drive. Basically they only pay for the
days they drive and the rest of the time it is like Layup insurance.
Obviously you would pay alot more if you used the vehicle regularly, but at the moment it wold allow you to drive occasionally when you wanted to.
Went away from AF and Aplan in the end as they were both quoting high. Ended up going with 2gether insurance, much the same cover and almost £80
cheaper. About the same costs as layup insurance so just stayed with having insured for driving.

A neighbour of mine has an insurance policy that she pays £170 a year for, and 4p a mile after that,
She rarely does more than 10 miles a week, (I don't do that in two weeks at the moment)
I had to help her fit a tracker, that plugs into the usb port, that monitors the mileage

I think I'll sorn mine as from June 1st
It's done 8 miles since the MOT in March and no chance of meets or shows this year due to the Coronavirus.
Tax is £23.18 a month and A-Plan require £163.12 on June 3rd ( 3years NCB )
That's a £441.28 saving. After 9 weeks of virtually no pay it's not to be sneezed at.

I went for lay up in the end. £73 fire, theft and accidental damage.
It also keeps the NCB going so it will be 4 years next time. Doesn't time fly.

My Anglia is insured with A-Plan, had it on a 1500 mile policy but chatted to them on renewal and got layup insurance for half the price. Worth having
a chat to them about it.

For the few quid you would save I have left my insurance ticking over. At least the car is ready to go if we have an odd very nice day or two.
