Manchester SVA Fail...... Booo

Unfortunately my Spec R failed today at Chadderton. Suprisingly it didnt fail on what I thought (self centering and speedo healer).

The guy gave the impression that from the start he was going to fail it as he mentioned that he had only passed 6 first time. Anyway jobs to sort

1) Lambda reading was very low as the tester couldnt get the probe up the exhaust. Also, it failed on noise (104 db). Mr MK Engineering will be getting a telling off as he made the bloody thing specifically to pass these tests

2) Brake fluid leak from the brake light switch

3) Design weights?? I put down 425kg on each axel and a 900kg gross weight. He said that each axel must add up to at least the gross figure???

4) LED number plate light was poo

5) some minor radius under the dash and a bit of wiring to to tidy up

Not a massive list to complete so I am reasonably pleased. Second time lucky hopefuly

Paul

I think there are less first time passes as time goes on, although most fail on minor faults think of all these extra £32 they are making

That doesn't sound bad at all considering yor "optimism" beforehand! All sound pretty easy fixes exept maybe the exhaust. Sould be done and dusted before my test in2 1/2 weeks.

Paul, with regards to the noise, what did you state on the form as max power rpm? Not that this will help you pass - I'm just wondering if you used max rpm.

You could try fitting a decibel killer for the re-test or shove some wire wool up the exhaust temporarily.

All in all, not a bad fail. You'll be on the road for the summer

#1 - happened to me too

#3 - yeah i fell for that one also

ps I'll probably see it in knutsford soon as I work there! (the big canute building on the train station)
you wont have seen mine however as its been off the road for nearly a year.

From memory I think I put down 10250 RPM for max power so it was tested at 7500rpm

I am a bit miffed with the exhaust as Martin specifically told me he had modified it to pass the test as a lot of MK's were failing.

The main problem is that there is a baffle right at the end of the can so the probe can only go in about 4 inches. We recon that its reading too much air intake.

Also forgot to mention that he wasnt impressed with the rear braided hoses going into a small piece of copper pipe before it entered the caliper (but thats what MK sold me )

But on a good note all the other stuff I made/botched, errrmmm engineered seemed to work

It was a "good" result really. Paul took it quite well, but I've been crying into my oily, blood stained sleeves all afternoon............

Re the comments above, Yep - Pauls built a really good car, it's a credit it to him and just a shame you prob won't see it at Stoneleigh...

Hi Paul,
nice small list of things to fix, car looks great, well done! I didn't know yesterday was the day (just that it was imminent). I remember parking in the very same spot... Did you drive or trail up to oldham?
