Speed Camera Poll

The lovely people at West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership (speed camera operators) want to know if the public think cameras are effective. The poll is at {http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.co.uk/polls.htm }

Well worth clicking the appropriate box just to ensure they get the message which seems to be coming across loud and clear to them at the moment. I am looking forward to the comments if it is not what they were hoping for.

To help ensure they don't see that it is bulk linking from here (hopefully won't be a link anyway) please post the link into the address bar, there is a link from this {http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.co.uk/} in the middle at the bottom.

Happy voting!

Oh, by the way, if you log off and back on you can generally vote again....

Someone with a user name andyps posted it on Pistonheads yesterday. Helped the ratio a bit, but it was already slightly on the no side!

i voted yes

lets be frank, they work well at proven blackspots, its when they are in the middle of the only straight on a long windy road that they cause crashes.

Speed kills-----absolute rubbish!!!
It's the (very) sudden stop that does it!!!

This usualy happens, looking out for the bloody camera's. Cheers Ray

94% now

I don't think speed cameras help at accident blackspots particularly.

I think that if there is an accident blackspot then it's probably because the road is badly designed and this should be addressed first.

Average speed cameras do work on black spots roads, but in some areas 90%+ of GATSOs are installed for revenue purposes only.

Hmmm... From their standpoint, Its cheaper to put up a camera than sort the road out.
Also they will make a revenue from it.

Cheap solution for the authorities, instead of just improving the road.

I suppose its just a matter of how much cash they have in their budget.

The REAL cause of crashes, is the Pratt Behind the Wheel. not the roads or Camera's.

I'm more worried that they are used instead of Police officers.

Police patrols have reduced by 67% since the government switched to "policing by camera"

This means that speeding is virtually the only motoring offence that is detected.

To be honest I'd rather share the road with someone doing 5mph over an arbitary limit than a drunk, drugged, unlicenced, uninsured driver in a death trap.

So the next time someone tells you that speed cameras are for "road safety" you can put them straight.

A living, breathing Police officer with the ability to detect ALL motoring offences costs money, a camera detecting only speed makes money.

It's all about cash, If these people really wanted to improve road safety they'd be campaigning for police traffic patrols to be restored to pre camera levels.

Cheers

Chris

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Although it's not strictly related to static cameras etc - There's a long downhill sweeping bend (before someone says it - Yes, it's uphill if you go the other way) on a dual carriageway not far from me. There was quite a bad accident last year when a woman coming down the hill spotted a police camera van, panicked, locked up and lost control and put her car through the hedge. How is that stopping accidents?

It's worth having a look at the comment which currently resides where the poll was - I don't think they liked the result particularly. The comments under "Opinion Poll" in the "You Said It" section are somewhat mis-truthful too.
