Very Nice Very

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:08 PM

Cheers guys. Nearly went old school and got some Minilite replicas but these caught my eye and got the set for £225 which I thought was pretty good.

They are a bit bling but the flash makes them look more polished that they are

Bodywork to be bought next.....what colour is the next big problem !

Edit to say - that and finding the cash !

what width and weight are they mate?

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:23 PM

They are 6.5" width and I weighed one at 9kg. I have no idea if that is good or bad.

They feel pretty light compared to the TSW wheels I had to roll the MK around on but one of those has previously had an argument with a kerb and is way out of shape.

I got them from www.dotz-alloys.co.uk which is actually potn.com. Good service, delivered in 2 days.

they look very nice

mind to get tyres that actually are proud of the rims so they don't get scuffed by curbs. Too many alloys are fitted with the wrong profile tyres that make the wheels very easily damaged

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:26 PM

I was originally looking to stick to 185s but think with these at 6.5" I will go up to 195 width. Don't want to go too low profile so I guess 195 50 15 or as near as.

Off to the tyre place tomorrow to get some prices.

daniel mason - 12/2/10 at 09:36 PM

camskill have some hankook road legal track day tyres at £55.00 each. thats before discount!

eddie99 - 12/2/10 at 09:37 PM

Wow they are nice!!!!!

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:38 PM

Cheers Daniel will give them a call. Might even be worth risking a trip to Whitehaven !

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:40 PM

Cheers Eddie99. Quite similar to yours.

Is 9kg heavy or light ish?

daniel mason - 12/2/10 at 09:41 PM

its a bit of a treck though! its the back of beyond up there! lol

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 09:44 PM

Thats assuming you come back alive ! Only been once to watch Barrow rugby and that was enough.

daniel mason - 12/2/10 at 10:17 PM

dont mess with the locals. a rough bunch!

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 10:19 PM

I quite fancied some Toyos as they always seem to get good reviews. Just seen these. If I can get the for a similar price locally I might go for them.

9kg is a bit on the heavy side for a 6.5" wide 15" rim, a 7" wide 15" team dynamics pro race 1 comes in at 6kgs,and a OZ super leg..at 5kgs

rb968 - 12/2/10 at 10:34 PM

Mmm looks a bit heavy having done a search. I weighed it quickly on a set of bathroom scales so might have to do that again to double check.

Didn't exactly pay for lightweight wheels so not too bothered.

What about these?

Anyone used Paradas?

Steve G - 13/2/10 at 01:44 AM

Its a light car and no doubt will do low annual mileage. Fit soft trackday tyres - Toyo R888 would be great but for an all round road tyre the Marangoni Zeta Linea in the common (so cheap) 195/50/15 size

I had those tyres on mine, changed them for 888's,made a masive difference, deffinately worth the extra cost IMO

speedyxjs - 13/2/10 at 09:37 AM

In what way were the 888's better?

gottabedone - 13/2/10 at 12:17 PM

to be honest (and I'll get slated for this) I don't really think that 9kg per corner instead of 6kg per corner will make a lot of difference. If you have an unlimited or large budget or you're going racing then you can shave a few kg's at high cost.
These are some really nice wheels and with some 40 quid Proxes will make a nice sub 400 quid wheel/tyre combination.

rb968 - 13/2/10 at 12:33 PM

Cheers mate. I won;t be slating you ! I'm sure the R888s are fantastic tyres but I can't justify the more than double the price tag.

We've all got different views and driving styles give this a try as it may shed a bit of light.

In addition to the above which contains tyre reviews - the requirements of a 600kg kit car are totally different to a 1400kg tin top so to me they are fairly meaningless.
