Exhuast ceramic painting help & advise
Kriss - 3/3/10 at 12:52 PM

Afternoon.

More for asthetics, I am wanting to make my exhaust look meaner and thinking of painting it matt grey with a ceramic paint.

advise and options/stores would be good.

Also thinking, to top it off by wraping the headers in grey exhuast wrap - again ideas and suppliers would be great,

You don't say whether your exhaust is stainless or mild steel BUT from experience no matter what the advertising says it's not really a DIY/shed thing to do - at the very least you need to get the exhaust grit blasted first, then properly clean/degreased and then baked in a proper oven or it will look cack in about 2 months........

If you take it to one of the companies that specialise in ceramic coating it will look good and last ages, otherwise it's just extortionately expensive exhaust paint that's really no better than any other VHT exhaust paint

Just my experience of the stuff mind you

Ah, you knwo whay Im not sure,

The can is grey/silver metal and is not polished, although i think it can be.

The manifold has gone bronzey gold colour from the heat.

i like the bronze gold colour but if it looks dull use abit of autosol and wire wool and then finish off with a rag and it brightens it up

I think a wrapped exhaust looks really mean, and thermodynamically better ( or so i was told).

A wrapped exhaust is better at keeping the heat in the exhaust system which allows the gasses to flow faster

And you can get black exhaust wrap.

Although it does turn a little grey-ish over time, but I still think it looks ok.

And as above, wrap looks good on a 7 type car, so wouldn't bother going to the time, effort and expense of having them coated...

I'm thinking wrap the mani, and ceramic the can. However it seems this shouldn't be a diy job.

I'm wanting it dark grey matt finish.

Any suppliers of paint or companies in Surrey people can recommend yo do this part of the job ?
