Audi Gearbox
andygtt - 26/10/05 at 07:51 PM

I've asked around and found out some info on the Audi box.

Basically the 4wd ones are not that easy to convert to 2wd so the gearbox's of choice for us mid engined boys are the Diesel ones from the A4 and A6.... these are also FWD rather than 4wd.

Also apparently they can cope with very good torque and with mods and blueprinting can take up to 600bhp.

Of cause anyone considering these boxs should do additional research by considering these boxs are quite cheap and that a £1-1.5k audi V8 (around 400bhp) bolts straight up, they have got to be worth a very serious look.

I know someone who used an Audi gearbox onto a zetc in his MK GT1. The whole combo is for sale along with webers and weber alpha.

Only issue may be the ratios for the Diesel GBX. 1st is practically useless unless your towing for example.

Hi!

First post on this *very* interesting and informative site!

A few questions popped up in my head when reading this thread:

1. There are numerous fwd audi A4/ audi A6 (at least in Sweden) with petrol engines. I assume those would be as useful as the diesel ones, if you could get your hands on one?

2. Do you know whether the older Audi 3.6l V8 engine also would be a direct fit to these gearboxes? The reason for asking this is that it is not possible to get a car through the swedish SVA with the stronger 4.2l engine.

http://www.motorgeek.com/ is the home of all things regarding putting V8s into Audis. A very informative site.
