Crate zetec, registration
Bizarro - 30/11/11 at 11:14 AM

Currently building an Indy using Sierra donor diff, gearbox + steering rack, most other parts are brand new (with receipts). I have the VIN plate and registration document from the Sierra, from memory I think its a 'K' plate.

I didnt purchase the original kit, I have the original receipt from MK but it isn't made out to me, its in the name of the person I bought the kit from.

Im using a brand new crate blacktop Zetec, which was purchased from GBSC. I have a receipt for the engine but dont have any documentation and the engine is not stamped with an engine number.

Firstly, am I using enough from the donor to register the MK on the original 'K' reg plate and will I have any problems due to purchase receipt for the original supplied kit is not in my name?

Secondly, where do I stand with emissions? Do I need to fit an exhaust with a cat?

Cheers Nick

Rather strange.

not at all. seen it mentioned on here before, replacement engines often don't have a number stamped on them (replacement as in, if you had the engine in a mondeo, and it broke, and you took it to ford and they replaced the whole engine)
not sure exactly how this affects getting it registered, but its not unusual for crate engines to not have a number it seems

reciepts, well, they can be made can't they and you really would need a cat for that engine. in short, you really need a cat for a post 1995 enigne, or one you can't prove the age of, this is a new eninge, and you don't have numbers to prove the age, so you will need it really

Ford service engines dont have a number, dealers stamp the number off the motor coming out.

Not unusual to not have a engine number, i stamped one on mine using ford coding.... And you will need a CAT for emissions im afraid.

unless you stamped the engine number from an old cvh or pinto then got a letter from ford, I wouldn't try it though just incase the inspector knows the difference between a brand new zetec and 20 year old CVH!

The engine number i made up using ford coding was to show that the engine was a 2005 engine....

Cheers for the quick replies.

Will it be relatively straight forward to register it on the donor reg even though I am not using the donor engine?

Mikeb, dont think Id get away with stamping it with the original Sierra number, worth thinking about but I reckon even my missus could spot the difference

It dosent matter who's name is on the original receipt, but it will help if you have a receipt from him also stating what work if any had been done.

ps keep taking the build photos.
