Common complete slick tyre size
bi22le - 15/6/10 at 07:51 PM

Hi all,
I have this vision of cheap pre scrubbed tyres on tap for pennies ( £100 for a set or something!). I would like complete slicks or semi cuts. I have free use of a tyre press so this is a chance to increase smiles and decrease the price of a track day! I have had a look on the bay and done a few searches but not found much so;

A) What is the most common size slick used that can fit on a Raw Striker? Currently I use 14" (185-60-14" wheels and would like to keep them. I can go up to 15" but not down to 13" without work.
B) Where are these scrubbed but perfectly usable tyres sold because they are not on the bay!?
C) Is this even a possibility or not!?

Thanks for your help.

i got 13" slicks on the bay from a chap called something like 'simply sunbeams'. Cant remember if he did 15s though.

I put my slicks on with a rubber hammer and tyre levers, easy to do as the flex a lot.

Get some 13" wheels, loads of choice then

I bought my last set of 4 slicks for 99p on ebay! They are good 'uns too.

Paid £50 for 4 wets same place.

Usually they are a year old and are a bit hard as all second hand tyres will be.

13" is the standard racing tyre. Any other dia is for one make series and not so common.

You could look at F3 front tyres all round they are 200mm wide and 535mm diameter for a 13" by 8" wide rim and are very light reducing unsprung weight and rotating inertia. Expect to pay £20 - I was just jammy getting them for 99p.

Search ebay and save a favourite search so you get automatic emails when they come on sale and you should get a set in a few weeks.

Cheers

David

it seems that 13" are the way to go which is a pain because fitting them on a striker takes alot of work and expense. Maybe it will have to wait.
Anybody know of a race series that use 14" x 6" wheels? Im surprised that raw use these wheels but nobody uses that size of wheel for racing!

No one uses 14s for anything tbh, even on road cars nowadays!

you can get a048s and things easily enough, but most hatchback classes that use 15s are on control road legals.

Why is it so much effort and money to go down to 13s? surely its just a case of swapping the brakes?
