Standalone ECU to run a Toyota 2zz Engine
Trigger1 - 27/1/17 at 07:25 PM

Hi,

I'm looking for a standalone ECU to run an n/a spec Toyota 2zz engine. It will have only simple mods such as cams etc.

Thanks

I would try the celica or corolla pages on Facebook they do come up. Someone had a new apexi for sale the other week

Thanks, I already have my eye on those, but thought I'd try on here as well

The two I looked at for my V6 were CANEMS and Emerald - I went with the Emerald in the end and have yet to have any problems (although I've not got it properly mapped yet).

May be worth giving emerald a call, they have just updated the k6 to manage the fire vct (st170) system. Not sure if it can cope with VVTI system though, Pythagoras will be your main issue unless you can run it in vetc (off, on, off) mode.

I have a brand new Omex 600 plus enhanced loom and all manuals. Will run VTEC in on/off mode ( but confirm with Omex ). RRP is £834, yours for £620 delivered. Pm if interested.

Thanks for the offer. I ran an OMEX 600 on my previous K20 Honda Elise and it was awful at dealing with the v-tec I'm afraid. It is an excellent ECU but I'm afraid not suitable for a vtec / vvtli situation.

If the omex600 will not run the vvti then you are into an omex710 or data s60 I guess as these may be able to run a mapped variable valve system.

Thanks, I'll give OMEX a call, but might be a bit out of my price range.

Also going to speak to Emerald going on the advice above.

Hi sorry Idon't but I know a man who does speek to patrick at Rogue motorsport they do nothing but toyota and I know he has one already wired to run the 2zz, I run a 2zz in my Gilbern t11 prototype but use the toyota unit, a wise choice of engine as well and will pull like a train far better than ford or vauxhall unit.......Gordon

Thanks Gordon, I will speak to Patrick. From memory I think they run Syvecs in their cars, and I agree they are a great ECU, but unfortunately they are also over £1.5k per ecu and not something I can justify. I will however speak to him anyway incase he can advise anything similar. Thanks again.

Hi the ecu patrick has is off his own race car so is s/hand if I fremember he offered it to me for £700 if he still has it,a very helpful man and what he does'nt know about toyota's is not worth knowing......Gordon
