Guys,
Trying to shed as much weight as possible from the Luego and one of the ways is with a race battery, trouble is which one. Would this one do (it needs to crank a 1.8 Zetec)

It should do the trick but is on the bottom limit. I would go for the 25. But plenty use the 15.
Or look at the Odyssey range from hawker energy. Same company just a different specification of battery. that comes whith better cranking ability. And a longer life.

I'm on my second year with Odyssey 545 on a 2.0L zetec. No problems. Tiny bit cheaper.

These types of batteries are far superior to the more normal wet and gel cell type. The hold charge for really long periods and don't deteriorate like the others. The one in my race car dates from the 80's I think and worked pretty well after sitting around for years at a time without a charge. The one I have is from a computer UPS, but same size and shape package, it just has smaller terminals and so strictly speaking not correct for starter motor use. It still works though.

They use a fiberglass cloth between the plates which is just moist with the electrolyte and that works much better and safer also. Very, very low internal resistance so even more dangerous should you ever short one out.

I think these types are worth it just for the longevity and shelf life. Take care of it and you may never need another. Don't over charge it, it has very little liquid so it will dry out quickly after it heats up. Left one on the charger over a weekend once and ruined it...
