Wife's friend killed in RTA last night
eznfrank - 18/12/09 at 10:11 AM

I've just had to break the news to my missus that a friend she's known for 20 odd years was killed in a car accident last night. The details are a bit sketchy at the moment but she drives a Lotus Elise so that and the snow may well have been a factor.

Anyway, I know we're all experienced behind the wheel but go steady chaps (and chapesses).

very tragic

Certainly been a lot of crashes recently up here too, people will just not slow down for the conditions. I've told missy not to use any back roads whatsoever over winter.

how truly awful.

Same happened to a workmate of mine, exactly on the same day, 2 years ago.

Its good to mention that, It is important to hit home to be carefull in the snow, if you don`t kill yourself, you may kill someone else.

I feel sorry for your wife, my girlfriend witnessed the london bombings, it took her two weeks to feel better - and she didn`t know the people affected, let alone a friend.

The perennial problem some drivers don't adjust their driving to road conditions and usually it is the innocent party who suffers.

Just so sad Bugger !

britishtrident - 18/12/09 at 12:08 PM

Warning of ice on the roads BBC Breakfast read out an email from a woman this morning.

This may not be an exact quote:

"I got into my car drove 300yards when turned over twice and then spun round."

Take care special today and over the next few days we share roads with idiots.

55ant - 18/12/09 at 12:26 PM

its very easy to be neglegent, especialy in the mornings, i cycle to work and litteraly got came of the drive, turned right and slid over completely, its a blend of competance and ignorance. few people crash on purpose.

condolences to the familly.

GMPMotorsport - 18/12/09 at 01:04 PM

Really sad news, makes you realise that your own problems are nothing compared to other peoples........................

miikae - 18/12/09 at 01:25 PM

Very sad news indeed, Condolences to friends and family.

Sports cars with wide tyres dont help in these icy/snowy conditions.

2CV's got the right idea

Sad to hear that. Condolences to all concerned. Unfortunately in a crash between an Elise & a Volvo the Elise is never going to come out on top.

Mr Whippy - isn't that part of the problem. My Mrs is the same- she will avoid any instance of dodgy weather, so she only understands driving in one condition. Why not go out with your Mrs, and get her familiar with the feeling of little traction?

shit thats a shame

speedyxjs - 18/12/09 at 05:29 PM

Im sorry to hear that

Steve Hignett - 18/12/09 at 05:42 PM

Our condolences are with all involved, plus just just had another word with the wife to ask her to drive extra careful...

Richard Quinn - 18/12/09 at 05:51 PM

Shit! Please pass on my sympathy. I know there is no good time for something like this to happen but what a particularly poo time for it to happen too.
I lost my sister in an RTA 8 years ago now and I still consider it to be one of the most stupid things to have happened. The really annoying thing when weather is a contributory factor is that we are generally told only to travel if absolutely necessary but we all seem to consider trivia as absolutely necessary at that time.

I second Twybrow, its a lack of experience that panics some people and causes others to be ignorant to the danger, If you can I'd reckomend trying to get a driving lesson in bad weather (Difficult to do on purpose but I had a few by accident).

Condolences on the loss.

nick205 - 18/12/09 at 08:54 PM

Very sorry to hear that and my condolancies to all involved.

Please accept my condolences too.

I was seriously worried by a close friend who believed there was something wrong with their brakes because the pedal was 'feeling strange' when she failed to stop at a roundabout...

Turns out it was the ABS working and she hadn't felt it before

When I suggested that I would buy her a session on a skid pan, she took it as an insult rather than me trying to prolong her life

My ex business partner's daughter and only child was killed five years ago last week, she was 18. I don't usually swear on here but it has to be said it was the most f*****g awful time. After 10 years of working together, and living together working away from our respective homes, I had no words to say to him or his wife at the funeral, I could not cross the divide of his loss to comfort him. The funeral was the most depressing occasion I've ever known; the total abject misery was spirit crushing. I've been to a few funerals of family members, as we all have no doubt, but that funeral of a young girl who was in the prime of her life was the worst moment in my 38 years alive. I feel for all affected by this death, as I know the feelings involved.
