Just been up to my F-I-L's and his 2001 Fezza has the engine management light on (not flashing). I don't even know what engine size it is but it is a Zetec. The car is idling at about 1200rpm when cold but is missing, doesn't rev cleanly and smells a bit rich. Is there any way to read the fault codes without a reader (like the old Vauxhall paperclip trick)? Failing that, any suggestions as to what to check first?
turn the ign on,led flashes for about a min, then it goes into fault code reading.i/e
1 flash
pause
3 flashes = fault code 13
or
1 flash
pause
5 flashes = fault code 15
etc... etc...
This should show you what's at fault.
Ed.
No you need a OBDII/EOBD scanner to read the codes they don't cost much 20001 Fords use the PWM protocol but these days scanners and code readers
are universal and cover all protocols just be sure and get one that also covers the latest EU standard CAN bus protocol if you ever want to use it
on more recent vehicles.
Prices start from about 20 pounds for something like a Memoscan U380 or U480 but it is worth paying around 60 pounds for a U581 which is much more
useful because it reads live data and pending codes.
Just do an Ebay search on the model numbers and only buy from a reputable UK or US seller (such as Alpha-Bid).
Beware of Chinese sellers that pretend to be UK sellers but don't keep stock in the UK, delivery can take over a months.
Nah all you need is an ignition coil lol

Probably HT related, coil leads or plugs
