Just got a tdi for my commute to work(90ish mile round trip). Its bloody fantastic a whole 75bhp and 144lb/ft of torque!
It seems to hate fuel and has averaged 60ish mpg so far
Does anyone know how the fuel economy is affected by chipping etc?
or should I just fit a set of coilovers and make up for the lack of grunt with corner speed!?
I beleive the fuel economy is supposed to increase with chipping (never tried it myself though as i am against diseasles in cars)
I presume it is the 3 cylinder model? My brother has a polo with this engine and it is superb. Speak to these guys www.ecu-remapping-service.com as a
remap is probably the best way forward. Fuel efficiency should improve a little as long as you don't keep booting it!
You should get nearly 100 horses with a good remap.
Steve
its the 3cyl model, sounds funny on idle though!!! Might just leave it alone for 6 months to see how it responds to my mileage, hopefully regular long runs with help 'clean it out' a little.
They sound great when you rev them hard.
Niece had a Polo with one in it, and a friend's Father has an Audi A2 with one in it.
Sound like a Porsche flat 6 when you give it the beans.
What they usually say with the chip is that it increases power when you want it and because of that general increase it can back the fuel off more when you're taking it easy.
Having thought about it and with cash being tight i'll just leave it as is, £300 is a whole load of miles at 60mpg!
