Driving our transit connect back yust now and i noticed that if i put my foot down on the throttle (doesnt have to be very hard), the revs rise by
about 1000rpm and then drop back down as the van speeds up.
I tried the handbrake test and the clutch seems to pull fine with the handbrake applied.
Does this mean the dual mass flywheel is the problem?
clutch slip or icy/gritted roads prob,the flywheels rattle a lot when nackered,you can feel it through your foot and the starter bendix should start
jamming.
you can get solid replacements but i have heard they break things further up the food chain
Hmmm, there were no funny noises and the roads were fine (no snow down here till tonight )
To me it sounds like the clutch. In my experience problems with the dual mass flywheel usually cause judder but not slipping. The springs on the dual mass flywheel on my Disco are weakening causing my clutch to judder badly setting off from rest but the still clutch grabs well even on full power launches
Must be the awesome power of the engine just spinning up the front wheels

Perhaps you are riding the clutch or the handbrake needs adjusting
Usually if it is the DMF the first sign is the starter throws a hissy fit due to the gunge out the flywheel splattering the starter drive.
Recent Ford DMF (ie about 2002 onwards) have a longer life than the early ones.
Odds are it is the clutch.
Sounds like the clutch. They suffer with sticking master cylinders too.
A dual mass wont slip unless its completely gone in which case youl have no drive and a shed load of noise. They knock like anything. Normally a
noisey starter aswell on the fords.
The transit connects slip like mad when u drive them and wont show up on the not moving test unless you really hammer them. Transits are the same.
The connects have a modified slave now as they werent retrurning far enough when the clutch was worn a bit thus makiing them slip.
Weve had quite a few LDV convoys with the transit engine where the diaphragms have gone weak aswell which would slip unless you were moving so they
had more load on.
