insurance help, or engine choice help
Stuart_B - 16/1/10 at 03:48 PM

hi all, well i have been a 2.0 duratec up, and today i spoke to my insurance company after last year checking about insuring it and they where fine but will cost me more, but to day i can have no more than a 1.6 car engine till i am 25.

so now i have spent more money than i liked to say build the duartec, to find it will be enough 7 years before i can use it.

anybody know a company that will insure a 18 male, with a 2.0???

as i can only think off one company adrian flux but they are going to charger a lot as they want £2800 for a 17 on a 1.6.

if not i will be selling duratec and the bits to go with it.

or any decent engine out there in 1.6 format?

i had a throught of toyota 4age is that 1.6?

any otheres?

cheers

stuart

Toyota 4a-ge is a 1.6 but the exhaust will be on the wrong side for you if that matters? What about the zetec se from Shawspeed or the Mazda rotary motor

ZETEC SE 1.6, best 1600 out there IMO

i have a 175bhp version in my car, inlet and exhaust on same as duratec, would be willing to sell/px against a duratec

outch - bit of a downer that one.

did duratec block come in 1.6 or smaller?

simples would be to fit same block with smaller capacity or shorter throw crank to reduce swept volume but would need longer rods.

The 1.6 VX Ecotec is a good tunable lump.

Two ways to go faster one is to fit a more powerful engine the other is to fit a lighter engine.

The K series 1.6L turns out 112hp as it comes straight from any old Rover 45 but it is a about 67 kg lighter than a 2L Duratec which has got to be equivalent to 10% more power and better agility.

67kg? how heavy do you think a duratec is? im sure its about 95kg

Have they only asked for engine capacity not output?
If so I'd say the 4agze would be a good bet, or as ^^^ rotary mazda from an rx7, only problem with those is they need rebuilding and think will cost you quite a bit!

Give some of the other kitcar insurers a call.

Footman James, Quoterack, Frank Pickles etc etc.. I am sure one of them will cover you on a 2 litre under 25.

Mine was fitted with a 2 litre pinto from the outset and I was 23 when it was first insured. That was with adrian flux.

Duratec is only about 80kg bare.

dinosaurjuice - 16/1/10 at 07:12 PM

footman james insure me on a 2.0, relatively cheaply too. was 19 when the policy started.

Might just be a sign of the times but I've never been refused. I even managed to get a quote on a brand spanking new Bentley Turbo when I was 18, they did say £22k like but it wasn't a refusal.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to ask around... Also might be worth looking into them advanced courses

Stuart_B - 18/1/10 at 06:23 PM

well the answer is no not a 2.0. so engine is now for sale.

cheers

I'm only 26 now, and i've been driving my 2.0 car about for over 4 years... I've been insured by osbourne and sons and adrian flux. My first year was £700 but down to £175 now.

Footman james insured my friend when he was 17.
